Faculty Research and Publications
Elena Belavina is an associate professor at the School of Hotel Administration in the SC Johnson College of Business. She is a supply-chains expert with a doctorate in operations management and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics and physics. Retail and supply networks interest her, as does sustainable urban living.
In their continuing effort to provide the most valuable amenities, hotels are exploring the possibilities of making a bike share option available to their guests. With the rapid growth of public bike-share systems, however, rather than offering an in-house bike-share, hotels and their guests might be able to take advantage of a city-run system.
Using data from surveys of employees and guests frequenting a restaurant chain, Professor Alex Susskind concludes that customers’ plans to return are a better financial performance indicator than guest satisfaction.

Professors Eva Steiner and Chekitan Dev compare the operating efficiency of dual-branded hotels versus single-branded hotels. Their findings present a mixed picturewhile Dev and Steiner find limited operating efficiency gains for dual-branded hotels, dual-branding’s popularity has surged. Their study explores why.
Robert A. Beck Professor of Hospitality Financial Management, Crocker Liu, released his Third Quarter 2019 Hotel Indices report. In Q3, hotel financial operating performance returned to positive profitability, prices of larger hotels decreased at a faster rate than prices of smaller and repeat sale hotels, the cost of debt financing and equity financing declined, and prices are expected to decline for both large and small hotels.

Scott Taber is part of the Operations Corporate team as Senior Vice President, Rooms, based in Toronto’s Four Seasons Corporate Office. Scott’s role is as the global liaison for the Rooms functions in each of the regions (Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, and Engineering).
