Lodging Sector Update
Rising occupancy in the U.K. and Ireland is being driven by regional destinations, especially those popular for leisure demand. Especially promising data was recorded last week in Blackpool, York, Plymouth, Bournemouth, and Brighton, all markets benefitting from concerns around international travel and quarantines as well as the fact that summer 2020 is rapidly becoming the summer of the staycation. In larger cities, such as London and Dublin, occupancy is lagging.
U.S. demand increased week over week by 301k rooms for the seven-day period ending with 1 August. Regardless, the last five weeks have showed much slower growth than the previous two months.
