2 Hours In SLU
Christmas Ships
For this installment of #2HoursInSLU, we hear from Stacey Alexander, Internal Operations Manager at The Center for Wooden Boats, on how to best spend #2HoursInSLU during the holidays at Lake Union Park.

Depending on the time of day you wander down to Lake Union Park, there is an entirely unique #2HoursInSLU to enjoy. This oasis in the middle of our bustling neighborhood is a hub of maritime history, community, and accessible on-the-water activities.

Immerse yourself in the experience of the Pacific Northwest's rich maritime past. On the weekends, rent a history row, pedal, or sailboat at The Center for Wooden Boats to see the city from lake. Spend your entire tow hours in MOHAI's newest special exhibit Edible City: A Delicious Journey, discovering how local food traditions, including our longtime fishing industry, have shaped our city's culinary landscape. [...]

The holiday sparkle this time of year makes visiting the area just a bit more special. Throughout December, the park provides a perfect view of Seattle's twist on holiday lights, both around the lake and on the docks. The Parade of Boats, led by Argosy Cruises, will begin in Lake Washington and end in Lake Union on December 16th.

Increased Head Tax Defeated!

The Seattle City Council was recently faced with a proposal to increase taxes on businesses. The intent was to create a fee based funding source for the Office of Labor Standards rather than continue to use the current funding for OLS which comes through the city's general fund. The SLU Chamber spoke out against this new tax on businesses which would have impacted business large and small ranging from an additional $200/yr to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
City of Seattle

Many of you signed on to our letter of opposition and your voices were heard. The measure was defeated and there is no new head tax on our businesses! Join us in celebrating this success. We look forward to continuing to represent our members and their business needs.
