The SLU Chamber was formed to drive, expand and preserve the economic, civic and cultural development of the South Lake Union area for the prosperity of its people.
First Thursdays: Launching in March We are gearing up for the launch of our new First Thursday social events in March! Every first Thursday of the month the SLU Chamber will be hosting a happy hour event. We will be kicking things off with a Progressive Happy Hour March 3rd starting at Naanz and then heading a few blocks over to Lunchbox Laboratory. We have lots of fun events planned for our first Thursdays and hope you will be able to join us. Stay tuned for more info! If your company is interested in sponsoring or hosting a First Thursday please contact us as 2016 dates are nearly booked up!

Lifestring Photography My name is Aaron Briggs. I love photography - I think of it as a 'lifestring' - a tool that connects pieces of narrative of who we are and were, and what's important in our lives.
Members Helping Members
We often get requests from our members to recommend companies offering specific services. We want to help connect companies who have done great work to our members. If you are looking for or want to offer a recommendation, email us and continue to watch for this section of this newsletter in which we'll highlight needed recommendations.
Recommendation Needed: Ongoing maintenance of a Joomlya website, in addition to new website development and maintenance for the clients they currently assist and new ones coming on board. If you have a company to recommend for this service, please email director@sluchamber.org.
Do you need help finding a good recommendation? Email director@sluchamber.org with a brief description of what you're looking for, and we'll see if any of our members have a recommendation for you.

Zipcar expanding, looking for partners
Zipcar Seattle, in partnership with SDOT, is expanding its "on street" Zipcar locations and is looking for interested organizations who may want to 'host' a Zipcar on the street abutting their location. This could be out front, to the side, or back. Curbside Zipcars bring pedestrian traffic and bragging rights for partnering businesses. Want in or have other on-street recommendations? SLU Chamber Members Support ST3 Route Servicing Denny Triangle, SLU & Seattle Center
In January, the Sound Transit Board met and, in part, discussed details of ST3. The South Lake Union business community came together to create a letter advocating for more services and stops in South Lake Union.
****Thank you to all members who participated and showed their support on this letter, you made up half of the organizations represented on the letter!****
We are proud to be a conduit for your voice on important issues like this. We will continue to send updates regarding Sound Transit Board meetings and opportunities to include your support. If you would like to be more involved on these issues please join us at our Mercer Stakeholders meetings (held monthly or on an as needed basis) from 7:30 - 9 AM in SLU. Email director@sluchamber.orgto get added to the meeting invite list.

Dedicated Transit Lanes, Turn Restrictions & Bus Service Improvements Coming to SLU
Starting in March 2016 Rapid Ride is expanding to our neighborhood. More service is being added to the popular Route 40 connecting us to Ballard and Fremont. On top of this, the streetcar will continue moving people to and from Seattle's retail core every 10 minutes. These service changes mean double the number of people can ride transit during peak hours, which is the equivalent of adding a new travel lane.
Finding the Heat in South Lake Union, Seattle's Coolest Neighborhood
Check out this great article, written by Rosemary Ponnekanti, about South Lake Union! Featured in the article are places such as REI, MOHAI, and Winston Wächter Art Gallery.
"...You can still find humanity in South Lake Union, in the form of cafes, bathhouses, art spaces, and even the REI store - places where you can warm up body, mind and taste buds. You just need to know where to look."
