York Region Administrative Centre Annex: Construction Underway

To better serve York Region residents, a new community facility is now under construction in Newmarket. Once open in 2020, the York Region Administrative Centre Annex will provide residents with better access to community, health and court services in one central location.

  • Excavation has started onsite and will continue into late spring
  • Tower cranes will be arriving onsite this spring as construction of the building structure gets underway; tower cranes are used to safely and efficiently lift building materials and tools
  • Residents may have noticed construction vehicles entering and exiting the Annex site; this will continue throughout construction, with the largest volume of traffic occurring from now until spring 2018
  • To prepare the Annex site for construction, a permanent parking lot for Regional staff has been constructed on Eagle Street between McCaffrey Road and Peevers Crescent
  • Removal of the adjacent buildings at 55 and 85 Eagle Street is underway to accommodate the Annex; services formerly offered at 55 Eagle Street are now available at the Gates of York Plaza at 17310 Yonge Street

What services will the Annex offer? Once complete in 2020, the Annex will offer the following public services: Ontario Works, Social Services, Public Health Clinics, Housing Services, Provincial Offences Courtrooms, York Small Business Enterprise Centre and Access York contact centre.
What can local residents expect during the construction of the Annex? Residents can expect to hear typical sounds associated with construction such as noise from equipment and trucks. During the excavation portion of the project, an increase in truck activity is anticipated until spring 2018. The construction team is working to mitigate the impact as much as possible.

Will construction cause traffic delays? You can expect to see an increase of trucks arriving and leaving the construction area, primarily during the first 18 months of construction. On occasion, traffic control staff may stop vehicles and pedestrians for a brief period of time to allow a truck to safely enter or exit the site. Please be mindful of your surroundings when driving or walking through the area.
Will trucks be parked along local streets? The contractor will ensure construction vehicles do not park or idle along residential streets, including Eagle Street.

Did trees have to be removed from the site? To prepare the site for construction, some trees were removed from York Region property. Many of those trees were a non-native and invasive species. Some were diseased and others were infested with emerald ash borer. Once complete, the amount of domestic trees planted on the Annex grounds will more than double the total number removed.
