Filling the Void

Asia Entering the United States

Tokyo Tower illuminates Tokyo, Japan which boasts the 3rd largest economy in the world and a 99% literacy rate
Black & Redd Solutions is set to embark on a 14 day, 5 country trip to Asia with the goal of continuing to narrow the gap between the region and the United States specifically in the Food & Beverage category.  Be sure to follow Black & Redd Solutions on Facebook for pictures and updates throughout the trip (!

B&R remains highly focused on Asia and is committed to brands from the continent and their aspirations for U.S. expansion.  Black & Redd is currently working with some of the largest companies in the area on their entrance strategies and continues to attract new clients based on a shared vision and focused strategy.

As presented in the April edition of the Black & Redd Newsletter, Asian influence in the F&B category in the United States continues to grow faster than any other segment.  The trip leaves from Los Angeles International Airport and will include stops in Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur before returning to the United States. With meetings set in each country, a highlight of the trip will be attending the 2015 THAIFEX World of Food - Asia annual conference.  The show is hosted by the Thai Chamber of Commerce and will feature 1,463 exhibiting companies from 35 different nations.  Black & Redd Solutions is focused on positioning current clients within the THAIFEX network, as well as attracting new clients looking to enter the United States.

The targeted area (Asia) contains:
  • 4.2 billion people (roughly 60% of the worlds population)
  • The largest city in Asia (Tokyo) with a population of 14,000,000 people
  • Provides 190 out of the Fortune's Global 500 list (2 less than U.S., Germany, and France combined)
At Black & Redd Solutions we feel there is a rather significant gap between the high number of quality Asian companies and the much lower number of organizations that have attempted a U.S. entry.  With Asian cuisine, culture, and significance continuing to rise, expansion is at all-time highs.

Please reach out if there is any interest in meeting, or similiar opportunities during our trip in Asia by emailing

Classic U.S. Brand Finally Cracks Japan

Taco Bell entered its 26th international market opening its first location in Tokyo on April 21st in the Shibuya area. The've used a more modern style and have located themselves in the center of a bustling, young trade area. Safe to say that the concept was well received initially with over 150 people, some overnight, waiting in line to be the first to the door.

There was some localization with the chain offering some exclusive Japanese menu items such as the fajita quesadilla, taco rice bowl and a shrimp and avocado burrito. The rest of the menu remained largely the same. Melissa Lora, president of Taco Bell International, said the chain conducted “extensive research” to ensure the Taco Bell experience resonates with the local Japanese community and culture.Taco Bell partnered with a local franchisee, Asrapport Dining Co., to grow the brand in Japan.
Mexican food in Japan has long been a category that they can't seem to get quite right until recently. With Taco bell entering last month along with the opening of another authentic Mexican restaurant in Ark Hills called Taco Rico, it looks like that's about to change. Taco Rico serves tacos and burritos with tortillas made from scratch everyday giving a much healthier and fresh feel to Taco Rico compared to Taco Bell. Taco Rico
was started by Noboru "Bill" Kitajima who was inspired by the taco culture in San Francisco. Congratulations Bill-san!
