New and Newsworthy

ISWP is collecting data to learn more about wheelchair provisioning and wheelchair users. Collecting standardized data would provide a greater understanding of where wheelchair services are currently being provided, and where the need is greatest. We are collecting data through a survey which can be found by clicking here: ISWP Data Collection Survey.

ISWP is launching a storycorps theme on wheelchairs where wheelchair users can share what they love about their wheelchair. You can record your own interview here. With your permission we would like to share with our global community.

ISWP has created a catalog listing wheelchairs that are available for use in less-resourced settings. The list contains pictures, descriptions, and contact information provided by the wheelchair producers and/or distributors themselves. The list is intended to assist governments, organizations and individuals who are interested in acquiring wheelchairs designed and produced for use in less resourced settings worldwide. (ISWP is working on a searchable wheelchair catalog.) To add a product, or if you have questions/comments, please contact Anand Mhatre, aam108@pitt.edu; 412-624-1233.

UCP Wheels for Humanity invites qualified international organizations, community-based organizations, faith-based and secular organizations, universities, non-governmental organizations and host country governments to submit applications to participate in CLASP (Consolidating Logistics for Assistive Technology Supply and Provision), an opportunity for wheelchair service providers to receive a range of appropriate wheelchairs to best suit the needs of local users. This solicitation is specifically intended for organizations with an existing capacity to provide wheelchairs with appropriate service in less-resourced settings. For more information click here
Applications for Phase 1 must be submitted in English by May 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM PDT/5:00 PM GMT. Applications submitted after the closing date may not be considered. One (1) completed application per organization should be emailed as an attachment to
clasp@ucpwheels.org. Applications can be accessed here.

Wheelchairs For Nepal

On Saturday, April 25th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, near the capital Kathmandu. The latest death toll has now reached over 6,000 and over 13,000 people are reported to be injured. Many remote areas have not yet received attention, so those numbers may still increase.

If you are interested in donating to Handicap International which is one of the organizations leading the efforts to help people with injuries and disabilities in Nepal you can do so
here. For more information on what Handicap International is doing you can click here.

Motivation has created an emergency response package that includes appropriate emergency response wheelchairs that follow WHO guidelines. They had pre-positioned 50 of these emergency wheelchairs, some have which already been distributed by HI. To donate to Motivation’s wheelchair fund you can do so
here.
