Dear U of M Medical Reserve Corps Members,

Welcome back, students! Student MRC members have always played an important role within the University's MRC program.  I particularly appreciate their enthusiasm and willingness to participate on many of the strike teams.

MRC student members are invited to apply for membership on the newly created U of MN MRC Student Advisory Group. This group will be comprised of two students from each Academic Health Center school/college. Members of this group will serve in an advisory role to determine MRC training and development activities that may be of interest to student members.

Warm regards,

Kathy

Strike Team News
Logistics Strike Team Meeting
The team will be meeting on Wednesday, September 23 to review team members' roles & responsibilities and to discuss team goals and upcoming activities. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the strike team leaders and familiarize themselves with the role of the Logistics Strike Team within the broader MRC program. NOTE:  We will discuss an important MRC drill scheduled for spring, 2016 that will include an essential logistics component.

This strike team plays an important role in the ability of our Medical Reserve Corps to respond effectively to planned activities and emergency events. Members of this strike team are responsible for:
  • Resource management before and during U of M MRC deployments and training events. (Physical set up of signage, queuing lines, tables, chairs, equipment and other supplies as needed.)
  • Assisting with providing for staff needs during deployment (care and feeding, staff check-in/check-out)
  • Supply management (restocking of supplies)
Membership on this strike team may be of particular interest to individuals who do not have a health care license. Click here for more team meeting details.
Pharmaceutical Response Strike Team Meeting
This Strike team is designed to respond to local and national public health emergencies that have a pharmaceutical response component.

The team will be meeting on Tuesday, October 6 to review team members' roles and responsibilities and to discuss team goals and upcoming activities. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the strike team leaders and learn about the important role pharmacist and pharmacy students would have during a public health emergency that would entail providing life-saving medication to the general public via a large scale dispensing clinic.  Click here for more team meeting details.
Behavioral Health Response Strike Team Meeting
The principal focus of this strike team is to minimize the harmful psychological effects of stress and trauma on surviving individuals and families immediately following a disaster. All team members receive specialized training, including Psychological First Aid training.

NOTE: Members of this team must have mental health or behavioral health experience, either as a licensed professional or at the graduate level.

Current team members and those wishing to learn more about the team are invited to attend a fall meeting.  The October meeting will be held on  the St. Paul campus and the November meeting will be held on the Minneapolis campus. Interested MRC members need only attend one of the meetings, as the content will be identical in nature.
