News for Friend!

Critters Entertaining Us!

 Dear Friend,

We hope this newsletter again finds each of you safe, healthy, and enjoying life. Our backyard critters have been entertaining us daily with their antics as we paint and our weather, mostly more wet and grey than we care for, has blessed us with a couple days of temperatures nice enough to eat outside on our back porch. That's something for East Tennessee in January! We have managed a few walks inside nearby Cades Cove but mostly have been just doing our normal loop around Townsend.

While we are already a bit bummed thinking of how many of you, our special friends, we won't be seeing this year at the now cancelled shows, we are enjoying communicating with you more via email and social media. We've also been having great fun in the online Zoom sessions with our fellow SAA artists.

Thank you to everyone that commented on the frequency of our newsletters! For those responding, the answer was unanimous that you would like to receive news from us monthly. For those of you who want more, Rachelle publishes her blog usually each Sunday afternoon, we publish to our Facebook pages typically 2-4 times per week and Rachelle has been sharing on Instagram daily and you can follow her at @rachellesiegrist. We also occasionally update our LinkedIn page as well as our YouTube Channel each month.

Presidential Portrait Miniatures
Rachelle is excited to be continuing the historic collection of Presidential portrait miniatures at the Woolaroc Museum in Bartlesville, OK and we will be sharing the progress on President Biden once she starts. We started working with the museum in 2012 and this will be the 4th portrait we've done for their collection.  We'll share more about this special collection once Rachelle's finished with her painting.

It's comforting to see the virus numbers starting to fall in our area and we're delighted that family and friends are starting to get their vaccinations. Per the schedule, it appears we're still a few months away so we're continuing to be extra cautious and keeping busy in the studio. ~ Wes

EXQUISITE MINIATURES

The Exquisite Miniatures tour is now open at the Norfolk Arts Center in Norfolk, NE through April 15th, 2021. The Center has been displaying a small selection of the paintings and will have the entire exhibition up soon. Covid continues to impact museums around the States.

The Tour is now scheduled to open on May 8th, 2021 at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum at the Chicago Academy of Science, Chicago, IL. Please be sure to check our website schedule for any updates if you plan to see the exhibition in person.
Exquisite Miniatures Video
Click the image to view on YouTube our mini-documentary about painting our Exquisite Miniatures, in which we share techniques, brush info, and insights into and behind many of the paintings that are or have been in the exhibition.

Paintings are being sold on the tour and shipped to collectors at the close of that venue. Sixteen new paintings were added to the exhibition while it was at The Art Center in Quincy, IL. Some sold there but the tour currently has 63 paintings on display!

Butterfly Painting by Wes Siegrist
An Acquired Taste by Wes
2011, 3 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions

While hiking on trails you often see numerous butterflies of various species congregating in one spot. Chances are, they are after nutrients usually where a critter has used the restroom! This is really true of the piles of horse manure on some trails in the Smokies.
Basking Beach Babe by Wes Siegrist
Basking Beach Babe by Wes
2011, 2 ½ x 3 1/2 inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Snow Goose Gallery, Exquisite Miniatures

We had such great fun in 2010 touring the islands off San Diego, CA with fellow artists and the sea lions were an obvious favorite. Any of us that have been to the beach, particularly in our younger years when we had no concern for skin cancer, know this feeling all too well!
Basking Broad Headed Skink by Wes Siegrist
Basking Broad-headed Skink by Wes
2009, 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Society of Animal Artists, Animals in Art at Louisiana State University, American Wildlife Art at the Allentown Museum

This is one of my favorite paintings of a common lizard here in the Smokies.  I was especially honored to have it not only included in the prestigious American Wildlife Art exhibition but also to have the museum use the work in their promotional video!
Dingo by Wes Siegrist
Dingo by Wes
2005, 2 x 3 inches, $225
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Paws & Reflect Art of Canines Exhibition, Up Against the Wall Gallery Show, Exquisite Miniatures, World of Nature in Miniature Exhibition

I painted this work specifically for the Paws & Reflect exhibition that toured to quite a few museums.

El Tres Amigos by Wes
2011, 2 ½ x 3 1/2 inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Exquisite Miniatures

This painting is one of many that I produced from our expedition with fellow artists to the Sea of Cortez in San Carlos, Mexico back in 2011. To this day, it remains our career highlight for trips!
Feeling Small by Wes Siegrist
Feeling Small by Wes
2005, 8 x 10 inches, $225
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Arts for the Parks Mini 100

This painting was one chosen by jurors to be featured in the coveted Arts for the Parks exhibition. I submitted to the show only a few times before it ceased to exist and had several paintings chosen. This one was done after our first trip to Yellowstone in 2004. The title is referencing the tiny people at the top left on the observation platform.
