Making Lemonade

 Dear Friend,
They say, "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade" so we've been doing just that and hope each of you has also been able to focus on some good in all the bad surrounding us today. It goes without saying that drinking lemonade is starting to get old! Townsend and the Smokies have been overrun it seems by tourists and with us taking the virus more serious and preferring to err on the side of caution, we've been forced to shelter at home more than we would if we lived away from such a popular destination. It seems the weather is also against us with high heat and rain more prevalent during the weekdays and more conducive on the weekends when the non-locals tend to arrive en masse. We have still been able to kayak a couple of times over the past month and usually manage to find a quiet place in the stream to isolate by ourselves or with a couple of neighbors. It's a peaceful time to interact with nature although we've also been enjoying the critters in the backyard from the safety of our screen porch. (Mosquitoes are the WORST at following social distancing guidelines!)

We have both been enjoying the fresh veggies from the garden and doing all the little projects that were put off to a later date. I have been keeping busy with tasks related to my job as Executive Director for the Society of Animal Artists and Rachelle is having a GRAND time painting the Mona Lisa in miniature. She's planning a series of these gems and we'll both be painting more later this fall. ~ Wes

The Exquisite Miniatures tour is at the Shafer Art Gallery (Barton Community College) in Great Bend, KS until August 15th. It will travel to The Art Center in Quincy, IL next and we'll be adding 16 new paintings into the exhibition at that time. This historic tour now encompasses 44 exhibitions at 42 venues and has included 282 of our paintings!

Wes had a WONDERFUL surprise in learning that the director of the Shafer Art Gallery is his college art professor!  It was a mutual surprise to both and you can read about it on our blog:
