News for Friend!

March 2021 ~ Next Issue: April 2021

Sunshine and Spring at our Doorstep!

 Dear Friend,
We hope this newsletter once again finds each of you safe, healthy, and enjoying life. We are continuing to isolate as we await our turn at vaccinations which we hope happens by late April if not sooner. Guess we can't complain for being "young" and healthy!  It's been great getting emails from so many of you as well as interacting on our social media accounts. We have especially enjoyed all the Zoom sessions with fellow members of the Society of Animal Artists. As Executive Director, I have been scheduling and hosting 3-4 of these each month. It's not just fun being with others from all around the world but also getting to know many that we likely would have never been able to spend so much time with had it not been for the pandemic. Seeing the homes, studios, family and pets of fellow artists has been so entertaining.

We have both been painting this past month and have recently submitted to some shows which are awaiting jury results.  Rachelle is nearing completion on her portrait miniature of President Biden for the Woolaroc Museum and in between SAA tasks, I have done the works featured here in the newsletter recalling fun trips in our past.

We're once again featuring a selection of older paintings for our Special Offer and after recently purchasing more frames can now offer any of them (including those featured in previous newsletters) framed for you. The framing, shipping and insurance are all included in the price.

We've FINALLY had some sunny and warm days here in the Smokies so our flowers are starting to bloom and trees are beginning to bud. For most of our yard, it's two weeks behind the usual schedule since we normally have flowers blooming when we would drive to SEWE during Valentine's weekend. Better late than never! In addition to getting out for some hikes and kayaking trips, I have moved all the overwintered plants back outside to the greenhouse and have seedlings sprouting. My hydroponic lettuce growing inside the studio is also doing great even though we eat it as soon as it gets big enough.

May each of you have a blessed Spring and find some exciting adventures in your daily lives. We miss spending time with you! ~ Wes

Paintings are being sold on the tour and shipped to collectors at the close of that venue. Sixteen new paintings were added to the exhibition while it was at The Art Center in Quincy, IL. Some sold there but the tour currently has 63 paintings on display!

Froggie Went a Courtin' by Wes Siegrist
Froggie Went A Courtin' by Wes
2007, 3 ½ x 4 ½ inches, $300
Currently Unframed

Provenance: General Exhibitions, Society of Animal Artists, Batrachology Art of Amphibians and Reptiles, The World of Nature in Miniature

We both love frogs and especially the sounds of them calling in the Spring here in the Smokies. These two amorous Green Tree Frogs were just outside our studio window one morning and I thought they would make a great composition for the upcoming SAA exhibition. I was delighted when the jury selected them!
Functional Design by Wes
2002, 3 x 2 inches, $300
Currently Unframed

Provenance: General Exhibitions, Exquisite Miniatures

While exploring the wilderness is more fun, I do enjoy encountering wildlife everywhere and this extends to painting them interacting with our manmade environment. What life and excitement they bring to the mundane!
Garden Eel by Wes
2008, 2 x 3 inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Art of the Dive

This is one of several paintings that I did specifically for the Art of the Dive exhibition and tour. I chose to feature some unique species and this adorable Garden Eel fit the bill! It was so much fun sitting in front of them at an aquarium and watching them pop in and out of their homes. I'll include a copy of the accompanying book Art of the Dive with this painting.
Hey, Look What I Caught! by Rachelle
2008, 3 ½ x 3 ½ inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Society of Animal Artists, American Wildlife Art

I saw this Praying Mantis catch this month in our backyard and decided it would make a great submission to the upcoming SAA exhibition. Of course, I was delighted the jurors chose it! This painting was also featured in the prestigious American Wildlife Art exhibition at the Allentown Museum of Art.

Horned Lark, Dubois, WY by Wes
2008, 3 ½ x 2 ½ inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Exquisite Miniatures, Ridge Art Association Miniature Art Show, Elderstreet Gallery Miniature Art Show, El Dorado Gallery Miniature Art Show, World of Nature In Miniature, MonDak Heritage Center Miniature Art Show, Prairie Winds  Miniature Art Show

This painting recalls a trip to Wyoming when we first saw Horned Larks. I wanted to convey the space in the landscape that highlighted both the warmth of the badlands and the cool, distant silhouette of Ramshorn peak.
Jenny Lake by Wes
2009, 3 ½ x 2 ½ inches, $300
Currently Unframed
Provenance: General Exhibitions, Exquisite Miniatures, El DoradoMiniature Art Show, Cider Painters of America Miniature Art Show, Alabama Miniature Art Exhibition

This idyllic setting was the location of a picnic Rachelle and I shared with two friends when visiting Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. We especially cherish these memories of experiences with friends now that it's been sometime since we were together in person with any of them.
