News for Friend!

December 2020 ~ Next Issue: January 2021

The Adventure Continues!

 Dear Friend,

I have mixed emotions about the soon to be ending of 2020. Most of the world is eager to see it go and I'll admit if 2021 has normalcy then may it come faster. Still, 2020 did have its share of good times, progress, and blessings. Hopefully, we'll remember more of those as time passes and our adventure in life continues but we do feel the pain of loss and suffering for those not so fortunate with 2020.

We continue being as cautious as we can with the pandemic. it hit closer to home this past month when an artist I had been working with and spoke on the phone to just prior succumbed to the virus. Our Exquisite Miniatures Tour Director lost his father-in-law to it and as I'm typing this several past and current close friends here in TN and among our fellow artists are dealing with it. May you all continue to stay safe, healthy, and enjoying your daily lives.

As of now, looking forward we will most likely be discontinuing our in-person shows as part of our business and will be offering more online and via newsletters for our family of friends and collectors. With an effective vaccine, we plan to continue to attend receptions and openings and will evaluate other shows when the opportunities arise.

So, what's going to be new with us for you?

How about joining us in our studio via Zoom sessions where we can just chat in general or you can ask what you want of us? These will be about an hour long and we'll set up a group or individual times based on your preference. Please email us and let us know if you would like to join one of these and what days/dates and times would be most convenient for you.

Rachelle has been enjoying creating videos to share on YouTube both of our paintings in progress as well as critter encounters and our adventures. Is there something you would like to see? She plans to finalize her book featuring our artwork and her poems about our backyard birds next year.

We will not be doing as many new paintings in 2021 so we will be able to do more commissions which now include a time-lapse video for you to enjoy and share. Since we are opting to forgo many of our usual shows and exhibitions we will have a monthly special offer featuring six different paintings with the background on each.

Our regular followers know that I'm a critter lover and have my special friends that live in our yard. This painting features my precious "Dovecakes". She nested at eye-level beside a path in our backyard that we passed each day so she became accustomed to us. She eventually would almost eat out of my hand and tended to follow me around the yard like a puppy dog wanting the shelled sunflower seeds I kept in my pocket for her. This spring day, she was about to take a bath in the birdbath underneath our peace tree. Everything was bathed in pink reflections among pink petals. I have kept this painting on display in our house when it is not at an exhibit.

This painting was inspired by our first visit to the West, specifically Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. The larger size pertains to the Paint the Parks competition rules as well as the amount of detail I intended to recreate in the landscape. No, there are no hidden animals in the painting although we did stay for quite a while at this location and watch a large Bull Moose foraging in the willows.
Favorite Fishing Hole by Wes
2010, 3 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches, $425

Provenance: General Exhibitions, Kentucky National Art & Wildlife Exhibit, Artistic Designs Miniature Show, Exquisite Miniatures

This painting was inspired during a visit to Yellowstone National Park. Watching this flock of Common Mergansers fishing this section of rapids and basking on the rock in the warm sun was such fun. Recreating the force of the water, its translucency, and warm reflections was a thrill for me as well as capturing the unique poses of the seven birds.

Wes and I both love painting boats and ships, particularly the weathered fishing vessels. This one, laden with sponges was at the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs where we always enjoy visiting while in that area of Florida.

I actually painted more to this composition before deciding I preferred the smaller square format to emphasize the bird and its reflection. Rachelle and I both LOVE watching birds as well as the challenge of finding new species.
Peony Peeper by Rachelle Siegrist

I have dozens of peony flowers in our front yard that attract a variety of pollinators. I was quite surprised one morning to discover this cute little Spring Peeper frog opting to take up residence for the day down inside one of the massive blooms. Initially, the painting was a larger composition but I decided I preferred the circle format and "in your face" cropped composition featuring the cute little frog and its delicate wee toes.
