COMING UP!

Book launch 'From Europe to Local: Migrating Solidarity
The Foundation of European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and SOLIDAR would herewith like to invite you to join us for the launch of our new book ‘From Europe to Local: Migrating Solidarity’.

The EU is experiencing an unprecedented influx of migrants and refugees and data shows that global human mobility – whether it is spurred by economic, social, environmental or political reasons – will increase in the following decades. European societies will become more diverse, plural, and multi-ethnic. Thus, integration policies applied from the European to the local level need to be improved in order to be able to respond to changing needs and guarantee social cohesion while respecting the rule of law and promoting a human rights-based approach.

The FEPS and SOLIDAR publication ‘From Europe to Local: Migrating Solidarity’ is a collection of contributions by academics, high level experts and policymakers presenting progressive policy solutions to turn the challenges linked to migration and integration into social and economic opportunities for the European Union and its member states. The analyses touch upon the institutional frameworks in which integration policies are developed from the European to the local level as well as the existing cooperation models between local authorities and civil society organisations to provide services to migrants and refugees.

The event will be an opportunity to discuss together with high-level academics, policy makers and policy analysts how to promote the role of local actors, improve cooperation between different levels of governance and civil society in the process of integration of migrants and refugees.

LOOKING BACK AT… SOLIDAR Study visit in Tartu, Estonia
SOLIDAR and our Estonian member Johannes Mihkelson Centre (JMC) organised a study visit in Tartu. The study visit was an opportunity for SOLIDAR members and partners from all over Europe to learn about the situation of refugees and long-term unemployed people in Estonia and the activities run by JMC to support the integration of resettled people and asylum seekers, long-term unemployed people and ex-prisoners.

Members discussed how NGOs can improve their advocacy and awareness raising skills as well as strengthen their cooperation with local authorities and municipalities to deliver social services.
