Welcome to St Clement’s, a contemporary, Redemptorist retreat and conference centre set on 800 acres in a tranquil, picturesque setting in rural New South Wales, Australia. The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of priests and brothers within the Catholic Church who live in community for the sake of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially among people on the margins of society and church.

A special farewell

A special farewell picture (above)  for one of our recent retreatants as she looked back at the monastery.

First retreats of the year

The first retreat on our program  this year is Eat, Pray, Paint. Join iconographer Sue Orchison as part of a pop-up art community for fellowship, for learning and to bring a contemplative spirit and shared wisdom to your own art work. Friday, 24 February, to Sunday, 26 February.

An Emmaus Journey, presented by Fr Leo Coffey CSsR, will run from 27 to 31 March. This retreat journey is tailored for older retired people. An opportunity to relax and reflect peacefully on this second half of life … “Did not our hearts burn within us as he spoke to us on the road” Luke 24:32. A time to listen, a time to be quiet and a time to share.

Foundation was laid a
century ago

This year 2017 marks 100 years since the Redemptorists began building a residence and juniorate at St Clements.

The foundation stone for the new building was laid on 22 April, 1917, and blessed by the Bishop of Goulburn, Dr Gallagher. The building and college was formally opened the next year, 1918, when the Apostolic Delegate took part in a more elaborate ceremony.

It follows, therefore, that any celebrations this year will be low key, but it is an opportunity to recognise the contribution that the Redemptorists Fathers and Brothers have made to the community of the Galong district and the Archdiocese over the past 100 years.

St Clement's continues this year with a full programme of retreats, conferences and meetings, serving the needs of a wide variety of people, parish groups and other organisations.

Though we no longer have brothers in residence to assist in the upkeep of the conference centre, we are grateful to the volunteers and staff that keep the grounds and buildings in good order and condition.

Our prayer is that all who come to us this year will receive grace, peace and refreshment.
With every best wish,

John Airey CSsR
Rector
