Hello <<First Name>>,

So, here in Illinois, the first day of spring rolled around and greeted us with a light sprinkling of snow. It's warmed up since then, but I think it was a warning. Like: "Don't forget that ice storms in May are a thing." I'm glad being a writer is an indoor job!

I've made some updates to my "Where Do Writers Get Ideas?" booklet: adding a list of resources for young writers, a review I wrote a while back for my favorite 'how to write' book, and a new story that more than doubled the booklet's length. I hope you'll enjoy at least one of those.

Speaking of new stories, I finished writing Book Three of The Riddled Stone back in November. I would like to get it published by July, but it's a 50-thousand-word novel, and I'm just now starting to edit the manuscript. No, I didn't take a five-month break! I dove in and wrote the fourth and final book of the series. I don't like outlining, so this was my way of making sure that none of the plot threads had holes. I can't exactly say Book Four is bestseller material, but it was the most fun I've had writing a book so far, and I'm glad I wasn't constrained by having Book Three set in print.

Now, I should go edit. I'll get back to you later :)

The Riddled Stone Series

Download free excerpts from my fantasy novels:

All Chris wanted was to be a peaceful scholar who could spend a lot of time with his friends. Now, falsely accused of stealing a magical artifact, he is forced to leave the only home he knows.

But as he and his friends travel towards the coast, they find a riddle that may save a kingdom—or cost them their lives.

As a child, Terrin of Xell was almost devoured by a spirit from the Dark Forest. She knows better than to trust magic. But when her friend Chris was accused of a magical crime he didn’t commit, she couldn’t let him face banishment alone.

So she and her friends get caught up in a quest to recover an ancient relic, with only magic to guide them. And everything is going wrong.
