This Week's Recommended Book

Kia and Gio, by Daniel José Older

This is an urban fantasy story, but at its heart it is a story about love and loss, and learning to move on. It is also beautifully written, with interesting and believable characters. In short, it is definitely worth your time.

Other people's problems are always a delightful way to get my mind off my own.

Randomly Selected Bonus Recommendation

Don't Eat Cat, by Jess Walter

Set in a dystopian near future in which the question may not be why some people take a drug that is known to induce a zombie-like state, but why everyone doesn't, this story is light in tone, but with deeper currents underneath the surface. Regular life continues, despite environmental and other man-made catastrophes, and after unwittingly starting a fresh outbreak of zombie-related trouble, our hero finds himself digging up parts of his past that he thought he'd left behind, and sets off on a literal and figurative voyage of discovery.

News and Announcements

The next book from my fledgling publishing company is now ready for pre-order!

Okay, So Look is a novella-length humorous retelling of the Book of Genesis, so that those of us who could never make it past all the "begats" in the Bible can appreciate the truly great stories there. Author Micah Edwards is a professional comedian who has a deep knowledge of and obvious affection for his source material, and the result is a really enjoyable book that just happens to teach you some Bible stories.

It will be released on October 14, and will be available as both an ebook and a paperback. Pre-orders are now available on Amazon, GumRoad, iBooks, Kobo, and Smashwords. Once released, the book will also be available on BN.com and via Oyster, Scribd, and Overdrive.
The SEA is Ours: Tales of Steampunk Southeast Asia is crowdfunding!

This is a cool looking project that I have supported with actual cash. I want to support them with a mention here, too. They are raising funds to pay the authors, illustrators, and other expenses of putting out this collection. Check out their IndieGoGo page- they have some cool rewards.
