When I said goodbye to Trisha Paddock at the PTA Council meeting last Friday, I never dreamed it would be goodbye forever.  Our last conversation about her daughter’s baseball jersey she was wearing seemed insignificant at the time.  Just an ordinary conversation about everyday life that now lingers in my memory and makes me long for just one more chance to tell her all the things I am grateful to her for.

Her words were softly spoken, but they always carried a powerful message.  She led the DEI committee with such grace and brought together diverse and sometimes contentious ideas with elegance and poise.

Her passing has left a hole in my heart and our community that will be hard to fill.  I hope that we will all honor her legacy and carry on her efforts in DEI with the same passion and devotion that she did.  I hope that we are inspired to give as selflessly as she did, and I hope that we can learn to lead with as much grace as she did.

Rest in love, light, and peace, Trisha.

PVPUSD Sustainability Committee and the PV Council of PTAs have partnered to bring environmental awareness to all PV campuses for Earth Day.  All elementary schools are forming student-led green teams to implement the new committee's goals including classroom recycling and milk carton recycling.  Marking the 125th anniversary of the founding of the PTA, our council has challenged each school site from elementary to high school to celebrate Founder's Day with a day of service on Friday, April 22.  See the attached flyer for some ideas for your units. Thirty-Third District PTA Convention Information:

There will NOT be a district dinner this year. We will reassess having a district dinner next year.  There is a $20 per person fee for all Thirty-Third District PTA registrants. This covers the cost of fun convention items and activities provided for our members throughout the convention.  Councils will be billed by Thirty-Third District PTA for all of their convention attendees. It will be council’s responsibility to collect from units.

Presidents:
If you haven't done so already, release your convention budget if your PTA is going to pay for your board members to attend convention.

ALSO, vote in your delegates for the PTA Convention. Each school has one delegate (usually the president/president-elect) and then one delegate for every 50 members. It is a motion at your April association meeting (e.g., I move to elect Joan Smith as a delegate to the Calif State PTA convention in April or I move to elect Joan Smith, Patty President and Elaine EVP as delegates to the Calif State PTA convention in April.)

FROM CALIFORNIA STATE PTA

A note from California State PTA about gifts and gift cards

It is that time of year again for units to start planning Staff Appreciation celebrations.  While you are deciding how to show your gratitude, please remember the guidance California State PTA.

PTA funds cannot be used to purchase personal gifts or gift cards for staff or volunteers, for the following reasons:

  • Giving a volunteer cash or a cash equivalent like a gift card on behalf of the organization may cause that person to be considered an employee or an independent contractor by government agencies.
  • In addition, the IRS considers cash gifts (including gift cards) as reportable income on the recipient’s tax filings.
For these reasons, our policies and procedures expressly forbid giving gift cards purchased with PTA funds.

However, if local businesses or members of your community wish to donate gift cards/certificates to school staff, you may facilitate that donation.
IMPORTANT DATES IN MAY
