In-person Worship SUSPENDED This Sunday Only

Dear Church,
In light of the anticipated right wing "Justice for J6" rally this weekend and in consideration of our commitment to the safety of our community, the Luther Place Council has opted to return to a virtual worship service THIS SUNDAY ONLY, SEPTEMBER 19th. Additionally, Pastor Karen remains away recovering from her illness. We will be joined by Rev. Ray Ranker this Sunday. We know God is with us amidst it all -- virtual and in-person. As our city prepares for this weekend's events, we invite you to join us online tonight and tomorrow night at 9PM for our Compline Prayers.

If you have any questions, you may direct them to me at

From the Director of Music & Communications
What an absolute joy it was to worship together on Sunday! There were familiar faces, and new ones too. And there were faces of souls we no longer see, but I trust they were still present with us.

A parishioner mentioned to me how the Liturgy for Healing and Moving Forward was such a meaningful way to transition into returning to indoor worship. I hold that closely because as joyous as the space was on Sunday, it was also a space of grieving. Of lamenting. Of being vulnerable to these feelings and the ways the Spirit was moving. And the choice to enter that space together as a community, whether in person or online, is one I do not take lightly or for granted.

Today marks my fourth year serving at Luther Place, and I am immensely grateful to be a part of this community. Our sending song from Sunday does not begin with "I've come this far by faith."

We've come this far by faith.

May we continue to strive to be the community each of us needs.

Love in Christ,
Justin Fitch

our prayers
Pastor Karen Brau
We offer our prayers
For the family of Katie Petit, in Texas.  We ask God's healing graces be present with Katie's grandparents, particularly her grandmother Emily Johnson who is hospitalized. We offer prayers of thanksgiving and celebrate the newest member of the family, a beloved child of God named Bishop!

For safety in DC. Temper those who bring hate and prejudice into our city and protect those who offer peace-filled hospitality in our turbulent days.

We ask for God's help in addressing the collective grief that exists for over 667,000 people dead in this nation and 4.55 million around the world from COVID-19.  Christ have mercy...
