COOL Happenings   |   November 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

As the snow falls outside, we remember author Clyde Watson's poem: "November comes and November goes, with the last red berries and the first white snows.   With night coming early, and dawn coming late, and ice in the bucket and frost by the gate.   The fires burn and the kettles sing, and earth sinks to rest until next spring."   We hope you are enjoying this special time of year, and wish you a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving.   Here is what is happening at COOL Ministries this month:
A donation of $20 to COOL will be used to purchase a pre-packed Holiday Meal Box for a needy family
November 28th at Old School Forest Preserve
COOL's Family Housing Program has recently received a very generous blessing!
Our thanks to Thrivent Financial for their support of COOL Ministries!
Food prices are skyrocketing.   Thanksgiving is almost here and again this year thousands of families will come to COOL looking for help with Holiday Food.   Food donations are welcome any time our doors are open, and those who want to shop and buy holiday food for COOL to distribute to families in need throughout the holidays are welcomed daily.

Once again this year, the COOL Pantries are offering the option of donating $20 to COOL to be used to purchase a pre-packed food box for a needy family.   COOL purchases these Holiday Food Boxes from Northern Illinois Food Bank to distribute to families in need throughout the holiday season.   Each $20 box will contain a turkey, cranberry or applesauce, gravy mix, stuffing, canned corn or other vegetables, corn bread mix, desert mix, yams, marshmallows, and powdered milk.   Donations can be send directly to COOL Ministries at 127 W. Water Street; please remember to include a note or mark your check for Holiday Meal Baskets.   What a “COOL” way to help our neighbors in need!
The COOL 5K/10K Run and Walk is almost here!   This is a great way to get some exercise during the holiday season while supporting a good cause.   Join you friends and family at the COOL 5K/10K Run/Walk on Saturday November 28th at the Old School Forest Preserve on St. Mary’s Road in Libertyville.   The COOL 5K/10K is an annual running/walking event held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.   Registration is available at Get Me Registered for $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K event.  Onsite registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the event beginning at 9:30 a.m.   You may also visit our website for the latest information and links to all COOL events.   Non-perishable food items to stock the Food Pantries' shelves will also be collected at the event.
Our Family Housing Program was blessed with a 10 year zero rent lease on another duplex last month thanks to a generous donation.   As a result COOL will have a much larger impact in the fight against homelessness in Lake County.   This duplex consisting of two, two-bedroom homes will enable COOL to assist countless numbers of homeless families with children for many years to come.
The COOL Food Pantries have been busy preparing for the holiday rush and stocking up on groceries.   In October Pantry West served food to 1169 individuals and Pantry East served food 4995 individuals in October for a total of 6164 individuals served in the month.   Both pantries saw a decrease in visitation as compared to October 2014, which we hope is a sign of an improving economy.
