COOL Happenings      |      June 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

June is finally here and we are getting some summer temperatures even as we are still getting spring showers.   The kids are getting out of school, so it is time to start planning for summer fun!   We have our 12th Annual Golf Outing coming up on Friday the 19th, and FOODSTOCK 2015 happens on Sunday the 28th.   Both are wonderful ways to enjoy the warm weather and support your favorite charitable organization at the same time!
Here is what is happening at COOL Ministries this month:
This year's COOL Golf Outing will be on June 19th.   Mark the date!

There is still time to register for the Golf Outing!   The 12th Annual COOL Golf Outing is coming to Midlane Golf Resort in Wadsworth on Friday, June 19th!  Please register today at COOL's web site.  Enjoy a fabulous golfing event and help COOL with the important work of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.

TEE Sponsors: This year tee sponsorship is included free with the purchase of a foursome!  What a great way to show your support of COOL Ministries and advertise your business, group or church!  Tee Sponsorships are also sold separately for $100 each.

Silent auction and raffle prize items are also needed for the golf outing.  For questions, call Diana at 847-662-1340.
FOODSTOCK 2015 is almost here!   This wonderful FREE concert in the park benefits the COOL Food Pantries.  All are welcome!   Come out to the Lake Bluff Village Green from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 28th, for an afternoon of outdoor concerts and great food.   Music includes the 'The Good on Sunday Band,' 'Generations,' and 'The Class of '68.'   Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket, and enjoy the music along with food & snacks from 'Graffiti Grill' and 'Best Wishes' Ice Cream.  The COOL truck will be on hand collecting donated food items for the pantries.  Cash, check and credit card donations are also welcome!
A new building for COOL -  After a long search, we are thrilled to announce that COOL has located a new home.  We will be moving the Central offices and Pantry East later this summer!  This new location includes a huge warehouse.   With added storage space, COOL is sure to save money on purchased food for pantry visitors and we will also be able to buy in bulk and stock up when prices are low.    Our new home will be located at 800 W. Glen Flora Ave. in Waukegan.
Our Wish List
To make the most of our new space we have started a wish list.  Our biggest need is for a walk-in refrigerator and a walk-in freezer!  We have been getting by for many years by running 10-15 small refrigerators and freezers that were not designed for commercial use.  Although walk-in units will be costly, we will save money every month on utilities by making this change.

We are also in need of office partitions or cubicle style work stations to enable us to subdivide a common area for our office staff.  We are seeking donations of desks, partitions and a conference table.  Please remember COOL if you know of any offices that are moving, renovating or may be willing to donate office furniture to a great cause.  Call Tera at 847-662-1340 if you have questions, need help making a donation or to schedule a pick up.

COOL Family Housing now has 10 families working and saving money to become self-sufficient in a few short months.  Our duplex in Zion has no central air conditioning and both of the apartments currently house families with infants.  Window air conditioner units are needed for both units.  If you can help with items for COOL Family Housing, call Shari at 847-662-1340.

The COOL Food Pantries has an ongoing need for grocery bags to use distributing food to the hundreds of visitors coming to the Pantries every single day!  COOL is nearly out of all bags.  Please save your grocery bags for COOL!   Bags can be dropped off any time during open pantry hours, or call 847-662-1230 and we could make a pick up.   Reusable bags and shopping bags are also a huge help!  If you are a crafter homemade reusable bags are needed too!
Uno’s in Gurnee is hosting a “Dough Raiser” for COOL on July 24th.  Uno’s serves not only classic deep dish pizza but also a wide variety of items that are sure to please every appetite.    Diners will need to present a 'Dough Raiser Flyer' (available here) for their dine in or take out meal in order for  COOL to receive up to 20% of your check as a donation supporting the important work of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.
The COOL Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, August 7th and 8th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (2720 N. McAree Road in Waukegan).  The COOL trucks are available to our friends at area churches and businesses on weekends prior to the sale. It’s easy to pick up the truck and have your parishioners, friends, neighbors or employees bring their rummage sale donations to fill the truck.  COOL has a storage unit available for storing donations.

Volunteers are needed on sale days and preparing for the rummage sale. Bring us your rummage sale donations for this August event to help COOL Feed the Hungry and House the Homeless of Lake County!  Call Tera at 847-662-1340 to reserve the truck, schedule a pick up or to drop off your donations.
Plant Sale Update:   The annual Plant Sale for COOL was a huge success and funds are still coming in.   The sale has raised a net of $8,122 of COOL so far!   We appreciate our volunteers who worked hard to make this event a success.   Thank you to all COOL supporters, volunteers and friends who came together to support the Plant Sale!
In May 2015, the pantries issued food to a total of 5,530 individuals.   This represents a decrease of 367 in individuals served as compared to the same period in 2014.   COOL provided enough food to families to make 66,360 meals last month, issuing food to 2,260 families.
Our Food of the Month:

* for June is vegetables

* for July is peanut butter
