COOL Happenings      |      March 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

Finally!   Spring is really returning!   Thalassa Cruso, horticulturalist and PBS host, once described March as: "a month of considerable frustration - it is so near spring and yet across a great deal of the country the weather is still so violent and changeable that outdoor activity in our yards seems light years away.
"  Here is what is happening at COOL Ministries this month:
Lines form outside Pantry East each day before the doors open.
This year's COOL Golf Outing will be on June 19th.   Mark the date!
The COOL Family Housing Program encourages personal growth and develops self-sufficiency in our participants.
COOL is a:
COOL is making slow and steady progress toward finding a new home for the Waukegan COOL Food Pantry East and the Central Offices. Relocation is becoming a necessity. COOL is out of space to store food and work effectively at the Water Street location. Last year, COOL moved 1.25 million pounds of food through the Water Street doors. This was no small achievement considering that there are no doors wide enough to accommodate a wide load or even a single palate. All of that food had to be moved by hand and cart in and out of the pantry which is truly back breaking work for the COOL volunteers and staff. After looking at several buildings we have found that those that we might somehow afford will need a lot of work.  We are praying we find the right spot for COOL in the near future and find the funds needed to acquire it.

COOL has partnered with several local restaurants for fund raising events to support COOL Programs:
On March 31st remember to take the kids in your life out to Chuck E. Cheese in Gurnee to support COOL. Be sure to take a printable flyer with you so that COOL will receive a portion of your purchase value.
You can help COOL to feed the hungry and house the homeless by dining out at Sweet Tomatoes located at 850 S. Waukegan Rd in Waukegan on Saturday April 11th from 5 PM– 8 PM.  Make sure you take a copy of the COOL Flyer (available on COOL's web site) with you to show the cashier to assure that COOL receives a donation from Sweet Tomatoes for 15% of your check.
Also, Panera Bread (6557 Grand Ave in Gurnee) will donate up to 20% of sales to COOL for diners presenting a COOL coupon anytime during their business hours (6 a.m. – 9 p.m.) on Friday, May 15th.
And on July 24th we are doing a “Dough Raiser” at Uno’s. Details for this and all of these fun & easy food fundraising events will continue to be available on the home page of our website.
The COOL Staff are planning a rummage sale to support our programs. We have penciled in Friday and Saturday August 7th and 8 as our rummage sale date. We are in the process of finding a member church to grant us space for the sale as well as some helping hands. Please consider helping with the sale in any way that you can and plan on saving your donations for this August event for COOL. Please stay tuned to COOL Happenings and for more information.
In February 2015 the pantries issued food to a total of 4567 individuals.  At pantry East food was distributed to 3486 people and at Pantry West 1018 individuals received food. This represents a decrease of 84 individuals served at East and 3821 at West. This is the second consecutive month that the overall number of visitors to our pantries has decreased. We pray this is a sign that the economy is improving!
