COOL Happenings      |      May 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

It is May and, as always, May provides us with both teases of the summer to come and reminders of the winter passed.   Charles Dickens wrote that "spring is the time of year when it is summer in the sun and winter in the shade.
"  We hope the sun is shining on you.   Here is what is happening at COOL Ministries this month:
This year's COOL Golf Outing will be on June 19th.   Mark the date!
COOL is a:
The 12th Annual COOL Golf Outing is coming to Midlane Golf Resort in Wadsworth on Friday, June 19th!  Time is running out so register today at COOL's web site.  Enjoy a fabulous golfing event and help COOL with the important work of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.

TEE Sponsors: we need you and it couldn’t be easier!!!  This year tee sponsorship is included free with the purchase of a foursome!  What a great way to show your support of COOL Ministries and advertise your business, group or church!  Tee Sponsorships are also sold separately for $100 each.

Silent auction and raffle prize items are also needed for the golf outing.  There are so many ways to help our great cause.  For questions, call Diana at 847-662-1340.
On July 24th Uno’s in Gurnee is hosting a “Dough Raiser” for COOL.   Uno’s not only serves up classic deep dish pizza but they also have a wide variety of menu selections that are sure to please every appetite.    Diners will need to present a Dough Raiser Flyer (available here) for their dine in or take out meal at Uno’s in order for  COOL to receive up to 20% of your check as a donation  to support the important work of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.
The COOL Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday August 7th and Saturday August 8th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church located at 2720 N. McAree Rd. in Waukegan.  The COOL trucks are available to our friends at area churches and businesses on weekends prior to the sale. It’s easy to pick up the truck and have your parishioners, friends, neighbors or employees bring their rummage sale donations to fill the truck.  COOL has a storage unit available for storing donations.

Volunteers are needed on sale days and preparing for the rummage sale. Bring us your rummage sale donations for this August event to help COOL Feed the Hungry and House the Homeless of Lake County!  Call Tera at 847-662-1340 to reserve the truck, schedule a pick up or to drop off your donations.
Office Needs:   The COOL offices are seeking donated cubicle or partition walls, conference table and office furniture.  If you are renovating your offices or know of a possible source for office furniture please contact us as soon as possible.  Your donations to COOL are always tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
Housing Needs:   COOL currently houses 10 homeless families in our COOL Family Housing Program.   All are working hard to make a new start in life and get on their feet.

Our duplex on N. Lewis Ave. in Zion has no central air conditioning and both units are housing families with infant children.  Window air conditioner units are needed for both units.   In addition, we need a basic push lawnmower for the residents to use at this property to help maintain the lawn.

Also, COOL has an immediate need for a washing machine in one of our housing units.

If you can help with any of these items, please call Shari at 847-662-1340.
In April 2015, the pantries issued food to a total of 6094 individuals.  At pantry East, COOL distributed food to 4660 people and at Pantry West 1434 individuals received food. This represents an overall decrease in visitors to COOL as compared to the same period in 2014.   Pantry East visitation decreased by 370 individuals and Pantry West decreased by 266 people. The total decrease was 636 individuals which we hope means an improving economic outlook for low income families in Lake County.
