COOL Happenings      |      July 2015

Hi <<First Name>>,

July is finally starting to dry out and seem like a real summer.   As Sir John Lubbock wrote, "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."
We hope you are finding time to watch the clouds or listen to a stream, enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors this month.   Here is what is happening at COOL Ministries this month:
Your prayers are requested as we work through all of the licensing and permitting issues involved with moving COOL to a new location.
More information about the move will be provided after details are finalized and renovations completed.
Join us at UNO's on July 24th!
If you have items to donate to the Rummage Sale, or if you want to volunteer, call Tera at 847-662-1340.
Thank you to all who participated in this year's annual COOL Golf Outing!   And we also thank Thrivent Financial for their support!
FOODSTOCK 2015 was a terrific afternoon of fun and music on the beautiful Village Green in Lake Bluff!

A new building for COOL -  After a long search, we were thrilled to announce last month that a generous donor has purchased a new building for COOL Central offices and Pantry East at 800 W. Glen Flora Ave. in Waukegan.   This new location includes a huge warehouse.   With added storage space COOL would surely reap big savings on food purchases for the pantries. T  he warehouse will enable COOL to buy food in bulk and stock up when prices are low.

If you’ve visited Pantry East recently you know that we are out of space and desperately need to relocate to a larger more productive work space.   Although renovations to the building are ongoing and we are ready to move, COOL is struggling to obtain a building permit from the City of Waukegan.   A Food Pantry apparently is not on the list of business types approved under the current zoning status for this address.   Pantry East could be considered a grocery store but parking and other concerns are blocking our progress toward making this move.

While we work to find solutions we ask that you help by adding this move to your prayer list.   Please pray for COOL that we can overcome the obstacles blocking our move to this new building, and that we can make this transition quickly and with His blessings!
On July 24th, UNO’s in Gurnee is hosting a “Dough Raiser” for COOL.   UNO’s not only serves up classic deep dish pizza but they also have a wide variety of menu selections that are sure to please every appetite, including those who maintain a gluten-free diet.

Diners will need to present a Dough Raiser Flyer (available here) for their dine in or take out meal at UNO’s in order for  COOL to receive up to 20% of your check as a donation to support the important work of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.   UNO's will be accepting the coupons from 11 a.m. till 12 midnight.
The COOL Rummage Sale is scheduled for Friday August 7th and Saturday August 8th at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (2720 N. McAree Rd. in Waukegan, IL 60087).   The COOL trucks are available to our friends at area churches and businesses on weekends prior to the sale.   It’s easy to pick up the truck and have your parishioners, friends, neighbors or employees bring their rummage to fill the truck.   A storage unit is available for donated items.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.   Volunteers are needed on sale days and preparing for the rummage sale.   Bring us your rummage sale donations for this August event to help COOL Feed the Hungry and House the Homeless of Lake County!   Call Tera at 847-662-1340 to reserve the truck, schedule a pick up or to drop off your donations.
Thank You Golfers!

The Annual Golf Outing was a wonderful event held last month at Midlane Golf Resort in Waukegan.   Our golfers enjoyed the day and showed their support for our mission in a big way.   This year’s Golf Outing has raised $7000 so far with additional funds expected soon from our friends at Thrivent Financial.

Thank you everyone for supporting this event!   We look forward to improving every year and are already making plans for our next annual golf outing to be held in June 2016!
FOODSTOCK Update ~ This year’s FOODSTOCK was a rocking success at the Village Green in Lake Bluff.   Thank you everyone for supporting this event and especially to members at St. James Lutheran Church, Tom Meyer, and the  "The Good on Sunday Band", "Generations", and “The Class of ’68” for donating their time and performances to delight our audience and support the important work of Feeding the Hungry and Housing the Homeless.   To date the event has raised $15,000 to support our cause!!!
In June 2015, the pantries issued food to a total of 6572 individuals.   This represents a decrease of 77 individuals served as compared to the same period in 2014.   COOL provided enough food to families to make 78,864 meals last month issuing food to 2702 families.
Our Food of the Month:

* for July is peanut butter

* for August is pasta or rice
