Unfortunately we have not escaped the crisis with two positive test results for COVID-19 in Thredbo Village.
There are a number of people within our community who have recently returned from overseas. If you know any of these people please remind them of the importance of self isolation of themselves and any family members from the community for a minimum of 14 days. If they exhibit any signs of illness they need to contact medical services urgently. People should not be travelling if they are unwell. Medical services will advise them on how to act and what to do.
The Government requirements are clear and all citizens must actively adhere to the social distancing rules by keeping at least 1.5 metres away from each other. In addition, the Department of Health’s directive is to wash your hands regularly for a minimum of 20 seconds and to sanitise all surfaces as regularly as possible.
THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE FOR US ALL. Businesses across the country (including here in Thredbo) have been closed down as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis. We are all suffering the consequences and we need to follow the directives given by our Government or risk further spread of the virus. Because people may believe that the mountains provide a safer environment than our capital cities, they may consider “riding it out” here in the mountains.
I implore all members to distribute this information to your databases and emphasise the need for everyone to follow the NON-ESSENTIAL travel requirements which means that if you do not have a good reason to travel from your principle place of residence then don’t leave home.
Here is a link to the Snowy Mountains Medical Centre Facebook page and the latest post today (27 March 2020) "There are another 2 and maybe 3 people that have had their test results come back today. None of them were infected in this area. It is not only Jindabyne but also Thredbo so you are not safe if you fail to practice social distancing. Do not assume that you are safe because we are isolated."
The latest update from the Federal Government regarding arrivals from overseas requires self-isolation at the point of entry. This means all arrivals will be mandatorily quarantined in hotels in the vicinity of the airport for 2 weeks. For people who have recently arrived from overseas back into Thredbo, self isolation for 14 days is essential.
