Help Wave Academy
Raise $100,000 This Week!

On Thursday, November 12, Wave Academy launched our annual fundraising drive with the announcement that we have an anonymous donor who has offered us a $50,000 matching donation! This means, for every dollar we raise, a matching donation for the same amount, up to $50,000, will be made, for a total of $100,000! So far we're at $17,400  in total donations since Thursday. We have until the end of the week to raise the rest, and we need your help!

Of the more than 2.6 million service men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, data indicates that 20-35 percent have come home with Post Traumatic Stress. Approximately 1,000 veterans of these wars are diagnosed with PTS every week. Not surprisingly, veteran suicide rates in California are three times higher than among civilians. And in San Diego – home to one of the largest military populations in the country – the need for support is growing exponentially.

Since 2010, Wave Academy has offered aquatic bodywork therapy to veterans who return home from Iraq and Afghanistan with PTS. And just last year we partnered with Johns Hopkins University on a study that documents the positive benefits our therapy facilitates, including improved sleep and reduced anxiety, fatigue and depression.

So far this year we’ve conducted 1,120 one-hour aquatic bodywork therapy sessions and treated over 145 veterans. U.S. Army veteran, Jonathan Britschgi, is one of our clients who has experienced first hand the ABT benefits.

Jonathan Britschgi

After serving in Iraq from 2007 to 2008 and experiencing mortar attacks every other day, Jonathan developed PTS, struggled with crowded spaces and began drinking everyday. Since beginning ABT treatment he’s starting to see things turn around. Although he still struggles with stress and racing thoughts, he’s learned to “slow down, meditate and concentrate.” He’s also developed more patience when interacting with friends and family.

HELP WAVE ACADEMY RAISE $100,000 THIS WEEK!

Jonathan’s story is very similar to the many vets we see everyday. They come to Wave Academy in search of alternatives to the medications that numb them to the world and stifle their motivation; alternatives to the sleepless nights; alternatives to the unbearable hopelessness that pervades our veteran community.

As demand for therapy grows so does our need for more therapists.  When you contribute to the Wave Academy you’re supporting our low-to-no-cost therapy program for veterans who qualify. Additionally, your contribution will help us train more therapists, secure more pools in the San Diego area, continue outreach to veteran organizations, and spread the word about our unique, scientifically proven methodology for healing our veterans.

Please help us get to $100,000. No amount is too small and no amount is too large.  We can’t do this work without you!

With deep gratitude,
