I've always had a keen interest in wine that began at Friday night family dinners and Sunday barbecues in South Africa, rapidly depleting my father’s excellent cellar. Over the years this interest grew into a hobby that prompted much reading, discovery, experimentation and many pleasurable trips to wine regions as geographically diverse as Stellenbosch, Napa/Sonoma, Champagne and Bordeaux. (That’s me in the private tasting room at Chateau Mouton Rothschild having just sampled a yet to be released vintage).
This led to a lot of drinking (tasting is for wimps) and an escalating obsession that led to many retail and auction indulgences. This obsession has now grown into a business that I've developed over the past few years.
DouxVin (loosely translated from the French as "Sweet Wine) is the hobby business designed to indulge my passion for wine and provide others the opportunity to similarly enjoy the pleasures of the wine universe. The model is simple: access and primarily sell wine to family, friends and associates at very modest markup to cover the costs of the business and leave a little for self-imbibing and sharing. Drink up, next year they’ll make more!
