Stunning new conference centre for the city

Work is well underway on the stunning new £30 million development at Southampton Solent University’s East Park Terrace campus, with a projected completion date of early 2016.

In addition to two bespoke lecture theatres, a spectacular atrium, perfect for large exhibitions, product launches and gala dinners will form the central hub of the new block.

The new conference centre will feature two large flexible suites comprising of: four meeting rooms with breakout hospitality areas overlooking the atrium; a bookable business centre with reprographic facilities; plus a new café and VIP dining area.

A dedicated hospitality kitchen will be installed, producing prestige menus for all occasions including: weddings; conferences; and gala dinners.

Once completed, Solent University Conference Centre will move to this stunning new event space, which will be available for hire by the local community as well as business and community groups.

Hilton at The Ageas Bowl opening May 2015 
Hilton at The Ageas Bowl, based at the home of Hampshire cricket, promises a real ‘resort’ experience when it opens its doors on 1st May 2015. The four-star hotel will have spectacular views overlooking the famous cricket ground, as well as a spa, high-end restaurant, banqueting facilities for up to 700 people in the Ageas Ballroom and a new 18-hole golf course.
All 171 bedrooms will have either a view of the pitch or the planned golf course and, for those who prefer relaxation to sport, the new spa will offer a range of luxury overnight packages, pamper days and treatments. In addition, Hilton at The Ageas Bowl will feature a 165 seater restaurant with exquisite food and cocktails available to diners.  A Sports Bar and Lounge will also be available, where guests can watch Sky Sports while enjoying a meal or drinks.
As well as some fantastic leisure facilities, the new hotel is set to offer one of the largest and most versatile corporate and banqueting spaces in the region – perfect for everything from small meetings or private functions to large exhibitions and weddings.

Destination Southampton sponsor Zany Zebras 2016 
Meet Gilbert!  He is a Grevys Zebra, under threat of extinction.  The city of Southampton will be host to over 50 Zebra sculptures next summer and we at Destination Southampton are delighted to be co-sponsoring our own Zany Zebra in collaboration with the Southampton Hoteliers Association.
The art exhibition will see an increase in visitors to the city, both leisure and business visitors will take an interest in the art exhibition due to launch in July 2016 for 10 weeks.

Successful Show at Confex 
Destination Southampton had a busy couple of days at Confex earlier this year. The Grand Harbour Hotel, Macdonald Botley Park, De Vere New Place and Halo Conferences & Events all partnered the city's official conference bureau's stand at the show at Olympia in London meeting over 200 professional conference organisers. 

The Oscars Awards Evening  

Destination Southampton were proud sponsors of the Southampton Solent University Oscars Awards Evening. The event seeks to create a legacy amongst the university’s students and staff by awarding prizes to the most successful, innovative and illuminated minds of the events management course. The event concept was an Oscars themed awards evening that featured alumni, employers, academics and undergraduate students. 

Sheridan Easton, Course Leader for Events Management told Destination Southampton "The students have all worked really hard in managing numerous high profile events both within and outside the University confines. I am really proud of their achievements".

Introducing The New Chair & Vice Chair of Southampton Hoteliers Association
Mark Sampson, General Manager of De Vere Venues New Place and Michelle Doyle, General Manager of Jurys Inn Southampton have taken the lead roles to head up the Southampton & Region Hoteliers Association which was formed in 1956.
The organisation is a collaboration of hoteliers from the Southampton region and the New forest.  Formed to work together on tourism, education and business initiatives with a view to encouraging increased visitors to the region, good working practices and knowledge sharing.

From Hollywood to Hampshire. An evening with Vinnie Jones.  
Footballer turned Hollywood superstar, Vinnie Jones is coming to Hampshire to host an exclusive celebrity gala black tie dinner. Vinnie will host the event and also take part in a revealing question and answer session on his celebrated career that took him from the football pitch to the Hollywood Hills.
