AOG 2015
This March I had the interesting experience of attending the 2015 AOG conference. Scoping out the direction of the industry and emerging new technology was exciting and exhausting.
It was good to see some familiar faces there, as well as some new players. The exhibition floor had exhibitors from all over the world, with entertaining demonstrations and cultural experiences (including whisky tasting!). There was a simulated ROV, demonstrations of modelling software and a LEGO oil rig. Representatives were present from many areas that contribute to the industry, from corrosion specialists to safety equipment suppliers, from process specialist to workforce management consultants and many more.
Highlights of the event included the Women of AOG High Tea, hosted by INPEX, which involved an interesting discussion panel regarding gender inequality and the role of women in the Oil and Gas industry as well as Australian industry as a whole. Similarly interesting were the special interest lunches on the state of the industry and new developments in Timor-Leste as well as a wide variety of displays showing emerging and established technologies in the Oil & Gas.
