autumn 2015

After a summer with all kinds of preparatory activities I will start on September 1 with schwarzmalen 2; a project of Astrid Moors and Marja van Putten. In October I will be in residence at ArToll kunstlabor in Germany and will present the results on Saturday November 7. With artist initiative the foundation of id11 I look forward to further developing our Artist-in-Residence (AiR) at the farm in the Noordoostpolder. We already have welcomed guests from different artistic disciplines.
schwarzmalen 2
In a period of two months, seven colleagues and I will work each on a painting of 160x160 cm, consisting of four canvases of 80×80 cm. The unpainted canvases of 80×80 cm are from now for sale, just before the start of the project and anonymous. The project starts on Tuesday September 1 and ends on Saturday November 7. At the final presentation will be announced which artist created which painting and also the buyer will know from who he or she purchased the work.

Everyone is allowed to be involved in the process, this is done via a poll on Facebook. Every two weeks you will be invited through Facebook to answer a multiple choice question, every two weeks we will post an update of the painting that is influenced by the public. The project starts on Tuesday september 1 with the first question.

The title schwarzmalen comes from the painting
Höhere Wesen befahlen: Rechte obere Ecke schwarz malen! by Sigmar Polke and is a critical reference to the idea that the public can participate, but also a glimpse to the commercial idea of crowd funding  Crowdfunding for a painting that still is a blank canvas is a strange proposition: the buyers do not know what they is buying (because the canvas is still white) and the artists do not know yet what they are going to paint. Read more about schwarzmalen on the website (nl) and purchase a canvas here.
For October 2015 I am invited to the AiR of ArToll kunstlabor in Germany. Fourteen artists (painters) are working in this period on their own work and will present it on Saturday November 7. ArToll Labor is located on the park-like grounds of a psychiatric facility from the beginning of the 20th century. More about ArToll on their website
