Dear colleagues,

As if your end of year workload and ‘pandemic stress are not enough, we now have floods !

Please take care of each other as you face the end of year rituals, report writing, staffing and ongoing challenges of Covid regulations. I hope the flooding does not impact your community too greatly.

Please take pride in the wonderful impact you have made on the young people who stream through your school gates every day and benefit from being part of our Catholic community.

God bless,

Chris Smyth

Director of Schools

Not so ordinary.

Here we are in the last week of the Church’s year. In the Church’s calendar it’s the 34th week of Ordinary Time. The other 18 weeks have been taken up with about 4 weeks of Advent, between 2 and 3 weeks celebrating Christmas, 6 weeks of Lent, the Three Days that are the highpoint of the Church’s year and 7 weeks celebrating Easter.

It’s a mistake to think the “ordinary” in “Ordinary Time” means not worth getting excited about. The other seasons of the Church’s year help us to think about the “why” of our being Christians - the fact that God the Son in becoming one of us and in dying and being raised has changed forever the way human beings can see the world.

It’s in Ordinary Time that we think about how we live as Christians, how we put into action our attachment to Christ. So how was the 2021 Church Year for you and me? Is some part of the world, even the tiniest part where you have some influence, a better place than it was a year ago? Yes? Congratulations! And if it’s not? Don’t worry. Let’s try to make this next Church Year (starting Sunday) a time when we live our ordinary lives with extraordinary love of others.

Retreats 2022

Advance notice that next week’s eBulletin will include invitations for staff members to express interest in one of two retreats being offered in the first half of next year March and June). The retreats will take three days but travel will mean absence from school for a whole week will be necessary. The same program will be offered at both retreats which will be open to staff members (not school leaders) with at least three years experience in Armidale Catholic schools.

New Bibles? They've Arrived!

I wrote to RECs late last term about the soon to be published Holy Bible CEV Catholic Edition with Encyclopedia. I think it looks excellent, a wonderful resource. I’ll arrange distribution via CSO personnel visiting schools or by post.

Pre-2004 Teachers Maintenance of Accreditation

NESA is allowing pre-2004 teachers to submit your maintenance between the start of Term 2, 2022(/2024) and 31 December 2023(/2025) once you  have met the requirements.

This will give you the opportunity to complete your maintenance requirements earlier so that additional professional development (PD) can count towards your next maintenance period or later if you need more time.

Please contact me if you need support or have any questions.
