Dear colleagues,

As we creep ever closer to the world opening up and returning to what is likely to become the post-pandemic normal, we recognise that we are not the same as we were prior to this experience.

Humans are incredibly resilient; we face and overcome significant challenges, often with the ability to emerge stronger and more capable than we were before. We are able to reflect on the benefits of an experience and the positive impact that it had on our lives.

Someone recently said to me that all of the positives in his life had stemmed from his access to high quality education—which unfortunately in that person’s youth, was not something that was available to everyone.

Being an educator is a privilege that allows us to give the gift of opportunity. High-quality education levels the playing field for all students regardless of their family background. In the busy and sometimes exhausting weeks ahead as we end the school year, please remember this: the work you do every day changes the lives of your students.

Thank you for what you do every day to ensure that all students in our care are given the gift of opportunity in the form of high-quality education.

Chris Smyth

Director of Schools

Last week, Judy Rily, REC at St Francis Xavier’s School, Narrabri was so thrilled with the insights of Year 1/2 students into the sacredness of creation that she shared them with me. Now, I’m passing them on to you

How are you and I doing at turning these children’s understandings into a reality? Thank you, Year 1/2 theologians.

Our Lord and Ruler …

With praises from children and from tiny infants infants, you have built a fortress.

It makes your enemies silent, and all who turn against you are left speechless.

                                                                                                (Psalm 8: 1a, 2)

Mission Month: Socktober

October is ”Mission Month”. Jacquie Toakley of Catholic Mission has, I think, contacted RECs directly about this. Some good resources and the chance to join in a great activity.

New Bibles?

I wrote to RECs late last term about the soon to be published Holy Bible CEV Catholic Edition with Encyclopedia. I think it looks excellent, a wonderful resource. The publishers have let me know that there has been a glitch in having bulk copies arrive in Australia from the overseas printer. I will let you know when I know more.

When CSO personnel are permitted to visit schools again, one of them will drop off a copy of Fr Tony Doherty’s 2013 book, “So You’re Working for the Catholic School”. Many schools may have copies already.
