in Kassel (DE) on 6 September

ERIGrid, EERA JP Smart Grids, ELECTRA IRP, SIRFN, and DERlab invite you to join the workshop “Designing and validating future intelligent electric power systems” in Kassel (DE) on 6 September, 2017.
The event will take place in the test centre for smart grids and electromobility SysTec of Fraunhofer IWES - one of the 19 laboratories available for open access in ERIGrid. The workshop provides a unique opportunity to attend the lab tour of one of the ERIGrid Transnational Access facilities.

The workshop is scheduled between the ERIGrid technical workshop (4-5 September) and the EERA JP SG General Assembly (7-8 September), all taking place in Kassel (DE), and will attract smart grid stakeholders from around the world.

ERIGrid Consultation with Energy Professionals and Manufacturers at European Utility Week 2017
On 5 October at 13:00 CET ERIGrid will hold an open consultation at the European Utility Week 2017, with the aim to obtain feedback from energy professionals and manufacturers on ERIGrid's recent developments in holistic system integration, validation procedures, and simulation methodologies.

ERIGrid Opens 3rd Call for Free Transnational Access
on 15 August

Starting from 15 August and up until 15 November, 2017, the ERIGrid project welcomes applications for its third call for open Transnational Access.

For industrial professionals and engineers from research and academia ERIGrid offers Europe's top smart grids laboratories free of charge. Successful applicants will conduct their own research and experiments free of charge at one of the 19 provided facilties.

Costs of lab operation are covered by the project.
Users' travel expeses, subsistence costs will be reimbursed, subject to ERIGrid rules and regulations.

Among successful applicants for the 1st ERIGrid Transnational Access is the user group INTREPID (INtelligent Transformer for Renewable Energy Prosumers Integration and Deployment) from Ormazabal Cotradis.
The users gained free access to the test centre for smart grids and electromobility SysTec of Fraunhofer IWES. With the support of the staff at the Fraunhofer IWES hosting infrastructure, they carried out their research project related tests in the domain of reliable operation of transformers under distributed grid conditions.
ERIGrid Supporting Smart Grids Collaboration
With its involvement in CIRED (24th International Conference on Electricity Distribution) on 12-15 June, 2017, in Glasgow (UK), ERIGrid opened a series of public events aimed to engage the smart grids community in ERIGrid activities.

The participation in CIRED was followed by the ERIGrid General Assembly meeting at the University of Strathclyde and a tour of the D-NAP laboratory - one of 19 laboratories available for open access in ERIGrid.

ERIGrid Enhancing Holistic Testing and Validation Methods
In June 2017 Fraunhofer IWES held an ERIGrid webinar dedicated to the self-developed co-simulation tool OpSim and its potential usage in the project. The webinar demonstrated how OpSim can combine several simulation platforms, automatic control of tests, including web based interface for connecting external simulation platforms, and remote users. The tool also provides the possibility to include real-time simulators (e.g., from OPAL-RT) in order to perform additional hardware-in-the-loop test cases.
Being able to combine several validation methods that ERIGrid is deploying, such as co-simulation, real-time simulations and hardware-in-the-loop technologies, OpSim proves to be a suitable tool for ERIGrid's holistic testing and validation objectives.

The webinar training will contribute to the refinement of several test cases for upcoming experiments in the project.
