Newsletter December 2014

COST Action ISCH1302

The end of 2014 is getting close and to finish our first Grant Period in style we send you the first ISCH1302 newsletter!

If we look back at 2014, we can be proud of what we have achieved with the Action. First of all, we have created an international research network on Long-term Forensic Psychiatric Care [LFPC]. A network that was evaluated by the COST Office as very relevant and timely because it addresses many gaps in knowledge in respect of the challenges pertaining to this group of mental patients.

Some first steps in filling these gaps have been set, e.g. how to define long-term forensic psychiatric patients, what characterizes these patients (WG1), what services are being provided for LFPC patients across Europe (WG2), what do patients themselves think quality of life within LFPC means (WG3) and last but not least 3 Short Term Scientific Missions and a Training School have successfully been organized.

From left to right Dr Mary Davoren, Dr Ronan Mullany & Ms Emily Talbot, all three went on a Short Term Scientific Mission. More information about their missions can be read here.
Training School on ´Active Management of Length of Stay: Forensic Triage and Recovery´ lead by Professor Harry Kennedy. For more details please click here.
