Spring term at SML College

Hope you’ve all had a good start to 2016. We’ve had an exciting start to the year at the College with a number of projects and events lined up to support our work over the coming months.

Open Days

Starting this Sunday we’ll be having regular Open Days at the College. If you’d like to know more about how SML works in practice and meet meet members of the community, please come along. It’s on a drop-in basis from 4-6pm with a second date scheduled for Sunday 20th March, 4-6pm. There’ll be other dates at different times of the week, so don’t worry if neither of those work for you. Please keep an eye on the website for details!

New appointments
Last term we were delighted to welcome two new tutors to our community.

Bec Garland joined us as our new art tutor. She is an artist with extensive experience across a range of practices including photography, drawing, theatre and writing. After studying Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University she trained as a teacher at Manchester Metropolitan University and later completed an M.A. in Visual Culture. Since then she has been a practicing artist working with schools, theatres, galleries, institutes and organisations in devising, developing and delivering creative projects in visual arts and theatre, as well as working as an associate lecturer and teacher.

Jason Pegg also joined us in the Autumn term to tutor in music. Jason is a multi instrumentalist who plays and teaches Piano, Guitar, Bass, Accordion and Chromatic Harmonica. He’s also a singer, songwriter and producer who has recorded with his own band as well as working and touring with some well known names in the music industry. He’s also been running music workshops in local secondary schools.

Social media

We launched our official Facebook page and Twitter account this month. We’ll be sharing details of events and news at the College and hopefully spreading awareness of Self Managed Learning to a wider audience. If you’d like to be part of our online community please use the links below.

If you were one of the first subscribers to our list it is possible that, due to a technical error, you didn't get the link to our booklet. If not, here it is again: You can download the SMLC booklet here or view it online here.

As always, we welcome any feedback or questions. If you have suggestions for content you’d like to see covered here, please don't hesitate to get in touch. You can also now share our news with anyone else you think would be interested in our work using the links below.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our open days.

Ian
