Go Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology!
We were honored to serve students and faculty in Pepperdine’s EdD in Organizational Leadership program earlier this month. That’s Jim hiding among the scholars in this picture taken at the entrance to Mutianyu Great Wall. Dean Helen Easterling Williams (front row left) sent us a lovely note saying that the Brickyard was an oasis for them all.
A Bed with a View
Image shot from the bed in Brickyard room 1-4 last week. That was well before the Belt & Road Summit, so we can tell you honestly that we have many days with spectacular clear blue skies at Mutianyu. And every room offers a special view of the gardens, orchards, mountain ridges, and yes, the Great Wall clinging impossibly to those ridges
Village Preservation Roundtable
The Brickyard hosted the State Cultural Heritage Protection Bureau's national roundtable on preserving and using China's villages attended by senior leaders and experts from around the country. Liang and Jim were honored to be asked to make a presentation and to show our work in Beigou village. The discussion was lively and sophisticated. There was consensus that preserving without use was sterile and that fake traditional designs were unattractive.

Head’s Up Dads Eat Free: Now that we’ve just staged a lovely champagne brunch for moms, what about something for dads? Father’s Day is Sunday 18 June and we will honor dads by offering a free lunch to fathers who are accompanied by at least one of their kids (no age limit, we’re always kids even when we grow up).

Mystery House
Matthew Hogarth won an Rmb 776 credit for correctly identifying Stone Forest in our last contest. We will offer a FREE NIGHT IN THIS HOME to the first person who emails us the correct name of the Brickyard Home that this construction site became.
Cooking with Randhir
This is the bounty that comes out of our garden but you can try baby garden green salad with soya beans with the ingredients you have at home.See Chef Randhir’s easy to follow recipe.
Sustainability in Action
Every little bit counts. In the Brickyard Retreat we offer handmade grass slippers for our guests to use and take home as a souvenir. Slippers left behind by guests are snipped into pieces and tossed in our compost pile.
