瓦厂网站中文版本终于完成:道歉需要这么长时间向我们的国内圈提供更方便的办法了解瓦厂。 欢迎中国客人及会中文的外国人看。The Chinese version of our website has finally gone live. We’re sorry it took so long to make it more convenient for guests who prefer Chinese language to learn about the Brickyard.

Brickyard Gets a Haircut

After nine years of exuberant growth the grounds needed root and branch trimming to restore and improve views. We’ve also added new privacy screens and before Fall will finish glassing in the room entry hallways for energy efficiency and pest control.

World Baijiu Day

This international celebration of the world’s most popular kind of spirit is coming up on 9 August. Randhir Singh, our chief mixologist and baker, has concocted spirited specials that will be offered from 9 to 12 August, including Five Spices Alive cocktail, iced coffee with our own baijiu-based liqueur, and lemon meringue tart flambeed with white lightning.

Rainy Day Chocolate

Coco Deer Chocolate recently offered a class on chocolate and chocolate making to our guests with tasting of their own creations. There’s almost something doing at the Brickyard on Saturday afternoons and our website lists Saturday Programs to help guests plan their visits.

A Dream Come True

Our friend William Lindesay of Wild Wall fame first imagined a pop-up book about the Great Wall for children many years ago. Finally, the book has been produced and we are selling it in our lobby kiosk. Makes a wonderful gift for kids, small and big.

All for One and One for All

Brickyard Partners & an old friend gathered in the Brickyard Lodge at the end of June with aspiring chef, Xiangxiang, who is back as an intern for a second summer. And BTW that’s our Gregg Vance Emery painting behind.

In the News

People’s Daily commentary on involvement of foreigners in countryside tourism featured Jim Spear and an image of Stone Forest, one of Brickyard Retreat’s vacation homes in Beigou Village. Our friends at the Linden Centre and Naked were profiled in related stories. Read the commentary and articles.

Coming Up in August: The end of summer is just around the corner and we’ve got some fun programs lined up, including “Skewers and Beer” all-you-can-eat-and-drink dinner, Chinese Valentine’s Day, and the return of Sunday Morning Yoga. Check out our Activities Calendar.

Mystery House

No one guessed Persimmon Court from the last issue, which was shown in its original state (Yes! Pretty much all of our homes looked like that before Jim re-made them.) So let’s try something different. Whoever is first to name this iconic residence will receive a credit of Rmb 888 toward a stay in any Brickyard Home.

Cooking with Randhir

Our team is familiar with the vegetarian and vegan traditions and many of the items on our menus and specials are friendly to guests with these food preferences. Here our executive chef Randhir Singh takes shakshuka into a new realm basing it on our ratatouille. Make this dish at home -- it’s easy!

Sustainability in Action

Dear Friends, This is The Schoolhouse partner Jim Spear reporting today from Hujiaping Village overlooking the Yangtze River high above the Three Gorges. Our Spear Designs team is working on a tourism development plan for this incredible earthen and stone village set in orange groves. Concurrently we are designing a visitor center, a small hotel, a local products market, and a heritage building converted to a restaurant. We’ve already delivered a schematic for preservation and strengthening of all the existing buildings in this village that time forgot.
