Book Early for Our Famous Easter Brunch

Our retreat garden will be in full bloom (as shown in this picture from Easter 2016) and we’ll have hundreds of blooming pots to make our live jazz brunch under the Great Wall a truly memorable experience. Chef Singh’s crew have created a lovely menu full of homemade fresh foods. We’ll have egg hunts for the wee ones and face painting, too. In case of rain, don’t worry, we’ll move the party into our 360 degree view Great Wall Room. Limited seating. Learn more and book now.

Our Hollywood Sign?

The party secretary in Beigou Village decided a few years back that we needed a proper landmark so he restored this huge Cultural Revolution relic carved into the rock on the mountain just under the Great Wall. Every reader who responds within 24 hours with a correct English translation of the sign will win an Rmb 188 lodging credit.

Vogue Recommends the Brickyard

We were delighted recently when Vogue’s Todd Plummer praised the Brickyard as a wonderful fusion hotel and a non-touristy way to see the Great Wall. Read the review and please share with your friends and relatives who are thinking of a visit to China.

In the Press

New China News Agency reported on our partner Jim Spear ‘s life at the Great Wall and captured him with his back against the wall in the Brickyard. Read Liu Xin’s illustrated article in English.

Good News: The Schoolhouse campus will be repurposed by this summer as an arts center with studio space for artists and craftspeople. Our visiting artists (6 more already scheduled for this year) will have a dedicated studio in the Art Room. Jim & Liang’s own practice Spear Designs will also have a workshop on the premises in a refurbished warehouse, creating custom home furnishings and textile products using antique fabrics. We'll have a small coffee shop open year round. Of course, we will continue to serve groups of 24 or more for meals and special events on the campus.

Claudia Hertrich won the last contest by correctly identifying La Petite Muraille. The first reader who correctly identifies the home pictured above will win an Rmb 388 credit valid toward a stay in any Brickyard room or home.

Sustainability in Action

We’re just starting Spring planting, earlier than usual because of the warm weather. This is what our Brickyard kitchen garden will soon look like. The first harvest of baby arugula is expected for Easter Sunday and we’ll serve it as one of the salads in our holiday buffet.
