To coincide with Nelson Arts Festival, we will be exhibiting some of Craig's 'The New Romantics' series. Craig's work in portraiture is seldom shown compared to his landscapes. He often works in series and over long time-spans.
We present a selection of his portraits of friends at their bach environment in Golden Bay.

"A road leads into nature with all the implied meanings that we are looking into, loving and destroying, the natural world at the same time - hence 'The New Romantics' series" - Craig Potton.

Exhibition starts October 18

Craig has been invited to exhibit and give an artists talk in Chengdu, China, in November about our beautiful country and help open their upcoming New Zealand exhibition. Chengdu is the city closest to their Giant Panda reserve. The exhibition is being organised by the New Zealand Consulate Office.

Craig's beautiful large format 2020 Detail & Grandeur calendars are available for purchase, both online and in store, along with a selection of other Potton & Burton calendars and diaries. Purchase two or more Detail & Grandeur - In the New Zealand Landscape 2020 calendars in a single transaction and receive 25% off. Calendars measure 510mm x 430mm and retail at $49.99 each.
Evolving Exhibition of Singular Images

Each month Craig selects an image that he loves, that has either not been published before or seldom ever exhibited. Craig senses them a 'singular image' standing alone, complete in themselves.

'Mountain Mist Beech Forest, Mt Taranaki'

"On a typical misty day on Mt Taranaki filigree forms appeared over my head. It was as if on the furtherest tips of the branches the smallest leaves were breaking up and merging with the dense mist. I heightened this feeling by slightly overexposing the image which also let the soft greens of the mosses, astellias and leaves come through. There is too much contrast on such days for the naked eye to see as much." - Craig Potton.
Taken on Nikon 800E, 50mm lens, Aperture F.11, 125/sec

'Lake Paringa, South Westland'

Introducing our newest open edition image to the gallery -
'Lake Paringa, South Westland'
Craig visits and revisits the West Coast Lakes in winter using his small boat to get out on the water as the morning mist lifts. The anthropomorphism in this image is obvious.
The Spring Show: Art & Fashion Uniting for Hospice event held on September 25, was a huge success for Shine and Parker gallery - and we at Craig Potton Gallery were honoured to be a part of it. Craig donated a new image entitled 'Peony' for the fundraiser. Jo & Leonie have managed to raise over $25,000 - and still counting - for Nelson Tasman Hospice. A fantastic effort from all involved!
