When Craig’s closest friend, Andy Dennis, died Craig lost a great mate, travelling companion, editor and writer. They conspired on books together, Andy wrote the text for, ‘Images from a Limestone Landscape’, and several other books with Craig. “He was just the best friend, full of life, wonderful language and a deep moral commitment to save nature”, says Craig.
With Andy’s sister Sarah, and close friend Eugenie Sage, Craig was given the task of building a hut with Andy’s estate. Their choice, high in South Westland Mataketake Range, reflected Andy’s love of truly wild out-of-the-way places that were fairly hard to get to. The forested Haast plains below the hut were the center of forest campaigns and a book Andy wrote ‘A Highway Guide to the World Heritage area, Te Wahipounamu’.
