Finally - A String Quartet Playing at 161
The Donald Grant String Quartet are long time regulars and have been threatening to play at 161 for a very long time!
They will be playing some old and new folk tunes between 8.30 & 9.30pm on the 22nd March.
You can check out some of Donald's Scottish folk music on Spotify, Donald Grant 'The Way Home'.
Hope to see you there!!
We will still be open as usual with food and normal reservations!
ST AUGUSTINE CHURCH, ONE TREE HILL
SOUNDS OF THE FOREST -TUESDAY 28TH MARCH
This is a plug for some musician friends of ours who are organising a charity concert.
The Forest Hill Collective is a group of musicians and actors who have been living in this area for several years now. We all love the community vibe here and are keen to put on gigs and events that bring people together even more! Since we live in Forest Hill and the gig is on top of One Tree Hill, we decided our first gig should be a programme of classical music inspired by forests!
There'll be a bit of improvisation as well as some really incredible pieces of music. We want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome!!
Tickets are only £10 and all proceeds will go to The Refugee Council. Hope to see you there.

March, April & May - Wednesday Tastings
Simple, informal & relaxed tastings
Starting at 7.30pm & 9pm
Lasting for just over an hour, each tasting contains five wines.
£11 a ticket
22nd - Hybrid varieties
Let's explore the wonderful world of 'man made' grape varieties, bred to resist the elements or disease - they can make a lot of sense for organic agriculture
29th - Ancient Winemaking
Going back in time to look at early winemaking regions and techniques
4th - Young Guns vs Old Hands
A comparison between 'The old masters' (some of whom have practically written the rule book) and 'The new kids on the block' (the rule book may have been thrown out of the window)
12th - Aromatic Whites
Exactly as it sounds - wines that practically jump up your nose
19th - Soil
Unique parcels of soil bring unique characters to wines; from volcanoes to old sea beds, the vine can translate this into the glass
26th - Finally A Trip To South America
It has taken us a while to venture to the New World. It's 161 so just don't expect any classic Malbec
3rd - The More We Drink Gamay
Perfect for the time of year, a grape that is currently gaining a lot more of the limelight
10th - Fresh Spring Releases
It is the time of year when new wines land on our shores, this will be our pick of the best
17th - Summer Fizz
Hopefully it will be nearly BBQ time and everyone needs an aperetif
24th - A Little More Chenin Can’t Hurt
Quite possibly our favourite grape; so many complex and diverse wines from across the globe
31st - Sun Drenched Wine
It takes a lot of skill to make fresh and drinkable wines in hot climates
To book; click on the event or go to eventbrite.co.uk or pop in to the shop
Tickets must be paid for in full on booking
Tickets are non-refundable 48 hours before the tasting
