Sylvia S. Romo Announces Campaign for Texas Senate District 26
SAN ANTONIO, TX–Today former Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Sylvia S. Romo announced the launch of her campaign for Texas Senate District 26.
“I am truly humbled by the bipartisan support from our community that has encouraged me to run for state senator,” said Sylvia Romo. “As a mother and proud grandmother, I will stand up for Texas families, support small businesses, work to create high paying jobs, and fight to give our children the chance to succeed.”
Romo was previously elected to two consecutive terms as State Representative for Texas House District 125. She is widely recognized for her most recent public service as the first woman and Latina to be elected as the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector.
A San Antonio native, Romo was raised in a working class family and earned a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed SEC financial adviser and a licensed general insurance agent.
Romo has been inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame and was selected to participate in the White House Women’s Economic Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. She was also named a Fellow of the Fleming Fellows Leadership Institute sponsored by the Kellogg Foundation. Romo has served as a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Women’s Business Ownership and was named a Woman of Power by the Mexican American Business & Professional Women of San Antonio. She has also been named an Outstanding Woman in Business by the San Antonio Express-News and named Woman of the Decade by the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation in New York City.
Governor Perry has set Tuesday, January 6, 2015, as the special election date for Texas Senate District 26. Early voting will begin on Monday, December 29, 2014.
