The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost

We are God's Masterpiece

This weekend we focus on the truth that God is the Potter and that we are the clay. This means that God shapes and molds and reshapes us as he sees fit. He does this for our good, to save us. Even though it is not comfortable and may even hurt to be reformed and reshaped, we ask that God make us his perfect masterpiece. To him be the glory!

Here is God's Word for this coming weekend:
Jeremiah 18:1-11
Colossians 1:12-23
Luke 10:38-42

"I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the LORD.'" (Psalm 122:1) I look forward to and rejoice at the thought of worshiping with you!

      - In Christ, Pastor Jon Klein

If you are away any weekend or work on Sunday mornings, come and worship with us at church on Monday night at 7:00 pm. I hope to see you there!
WELS Synod Convention
A week ago, pastors and lay people from our national church body - the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) - met to hear reports on how our church body is doing and to look ahead to future ministry. You can watch the video summaries here.
Coffee at Kneaders
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join other LOTV people at Kneaders (480 W Antelope Dr in Layton) on Friday, August 9 at 9:00 am for coffee, food, and fellowship.

Art Studio Bible Camp Gallery

Our 2019 Art Studio Bible camp wrapped up today, August 8. We had 21 participants, 14 of whom were not our members. Their artwork is on display this weekend in the entrance area to church. Take some time to peruse the work of our young artists, and join in a little reception for them this Sunday, August 11, after church with snacks and other goodies.
Newly Elected Councilmen
Per the voters’ meeting on Sunday, July 14, four positions of the Church Council were elected to serve two-year positions. They are as follows:
  • (Pictured top left) Allan Emery (801-645-5488; aemeryx2@gmail.com) as Church President, who runs the business meetings of our church and appoints people into Church Council positions if the position is vacated before an election.
  • (Pictured top right) Gary Turck (385-383-1339; gandkschnauzer@yahoo.com) as Vice-President, who fills in when the president is unavailable.
  • (Pictured bottom left) Eric Meinzen (801-499-0393; ericmeinzen@gmail.com) as Treasurer, who makes sure all our church bills are paid.
  • (Pictured bottom right with his wife Destiny) Jacob Gomez (801-856-0589; gomezj1962@gmail.com) as Head Trustee, who coordinates the maintenance of our church property.

Our other Church Council members who will be up for election next summer include:
  • Andy Hartmann (801-726-5169; cscofp@hotmail.com) as Head Elder, who works with Pastor Klein to tend the individuals of our congregation while also working to make sure that we as a congregation follow God's Word.
  • Harry Short (801-828-7027; hdhshort93@gmail.com) as Evangelism Chairman, who works with Pastor Klein to plan and execute reaching out to our community with the Gospel.
  • Ben Heidfeld (435-740-0643; benheidfeld@gmail.com) as our Financial Secretary, who maintains records of all donations and offerings given.
  • John Kase (801-773-7221; thoreaulike@comcast.net) as Recording Secretary, who records notes of every council and voters' meeting to make them available to anyone in the congregation.

As members of our Church Council, these men volunteer their time and talents to serve you. Seek them out with questions you have. Pray for them. Support them with your words and actions. To God be the glory!

Revelation to Genesis

The Genesis Bible study has begun. This book of the Bible is foundational to much of our Christian faith.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend the adult Bible study on Sunday mornings at 9:15 am.

You can download and share the Genesis study guide or pick up a paper copy at church.

Paper copies of past Bible study guides for Habakkuk and Revelation are also available at church.
