FEATURED NEWS STORY

As the United Nations warns of drastic worldwide losses of fertile soil, Illinois should step up its own efforts to stop farmland from eroding away.

U.N. report released Thursday in Geneva found that soil is disappearing worldwide as much as 100 times faster than it can be replaced, and half a billion people live in places that are turning into deserts.

UMRS FLOOD, SEDIMENT, DROUGHT MANAGEMENT
EVENT: UMRBA is co-hosting six Saturday events along the Upper Mississippi River this summer.  These gatherings will be different from many other public meetings.  The people who come to these events will set the agenda and lead the discussion. There will not be presentations by “experts.” Conversations will focus on reducing the risks of flooding, maintaining the navigation channel, managing river sediment, and preparing for a long term drought.  Share the impacts to you, your neighbors, and your community, and talk about how we can all work together to better address these issues. LEARN MORE
