AISWCD MEETINGS
AISWCD FOUNDATION & COMMITTEE MEETINGS

On Tuesday of this week, the AISWCD Foundation and Legislative and Planning Committees met at Erin's Pavilion in Springfield's Southwind Park. Topics included grant seeking, all things related to summer conference planning, and the push for increased funding for soil and water conservation programs this spring when lawmakers return to Springfield. Good things are happening, stay tuned!

NACD NORTH CENTRAL NEWS
NACD NORTH CENTRAL MEETS

Last week, the NACD North Central Region Board of Directors and regional conservation leaders and partners met in St. Charles, Mo., for the region's annual board meeting. Throughout the two-day meeting, attendees discussed conservation policy, regional issues and NACD's upcoming Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
Director of Environmental Programs with the Missouri Soybean and Corn Growers Association Darrick Steen provided a keynote speech on the impacts of various conservation practices and weather variances on soil health and water quality.
 
Additionally, Dr. Rob Myers (pictured above), North Central Region's Sustainable Agricultural Resources and Education (SARE) Regional Director of Extension Programs and SARE National Liaison for Cover Crops and Soil Health introduced attendees to two reports he authored—"Cover Crop Economics" and "Progress Report: Adoption of Soil Health Systems Based on Data from the 2017 U.S. Census of Agriculture," which was written in cooperation with the Soil Health Institute.
 
The meeting ended with the board re-electing Ohio's Kris Swartz as the North Central region chair and Minnesota's Kurt Beckstrom as region vice chair.
