PRECONFERENCE EVENT

A NIGHT AT THE BALLPARK: More than 90 people preregistered for the AISWCD's preconference social event this year! Attendees enjoyed a sunny, hot, but really fun evening of baseball with a great selection of food and cold drinks!

OPENING CEREMONY

WELCOME REMARKS: Illinois Department of Agriculture Director John Sullivan helped to kick off the 71st Annual Meeting & Summer Training Conference by greeting conference goers with a welcome message at the event's opening ceremony.

LOGO CONCEPT REVEALED

LOGO CONCEPT: Delegates to the 2018 Annual Meeting & Summer Training Conference last year tasked the AISWCD with developing a logo concept that could be adopted by SWCDs across the state to better brand and create a more uniform look for SWCDs. After numerous meetings and surveying members over the course of the past year - the AISWCD unveiled a logo concept this week that will serve as a tool for districts who would like to adopt a new logo.

CUSTOMIZE IT! Districts can have their county name inserted across the top band. Please email graphic designer Karen Birky to customize your own! The cost for customization is $25, and districts will be provided with a .png, .eps, and .jpeg file in both black/white and full color. Birky can be contacted at karenbirky@mac.com.

LAWMAKER OF THE YEAR

LAWMAKER OF THE YEAR: Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign), Chair of the Senate Agriculture & Conservation Committee, was honored as this year's AISWCD Lawmaker of the Year for his spring efforts. Bennett sponsored the NLRS Resolution that successfully passed both chambers and the Senate version of the Soil Health Bill. He also championed the the Fall Covers for Spring Savings cover crop insurance pilot program, which was funded by lawmakers.

SPEAKERS

SOIL HEALTH CHAMP: Tazewell County's Brad Zimmerman provided an excellent presentation on soil health. Early feedback has indicated he was certainly a conference favorite!

CONSERVATION FARM FAMILIES

FAMILIES: The AISWCD elected to honor both farm family nominees this year! Congratulations to the Mueller Family of Rock Island County and the Aldridge Family of Lawrence County!

FRIEND OF CONSERVATION

FRIEND: The AISWCD was pleased to bestow Kris Reynolds of American Farmland Trust with the 2019 Friend of Conservation for his work in championing the 'Fall Covers for Spring Savings' cover crop insurance pilot program!

LIVE AUCTION

BID: The AISWCD brought back the tradition of the live auction! Pictured above are two phenomenal barn quilts donated this year. This year's auction raised $3,534.50 - awesome! Brent Miller, a 2019 Teacher of the Year Award winner, did a fantastic job serving as the auctioneer. Miller was assisted by the Ford County SWCD Director Kenny Hawthorne who brought the fun factor. Following the auction, a DJ provided musical entertainment to the late night crowd! Thank you to Shelly Finfrock of DeWitt County SWCD who helped to coordinate the event and each of the counties who contributed an auction item!
AUXILIARY FUN!
ANNUAL MEETING

POLICY: The AISWCD delegate body held its annual meeting and adopted four resolutions;

2019-1: No-Till, Strip-Till, Cover Crops

2019-3: Resolutions, Policy, & Procedures Manual Cleanup
The resolution tasks the AISWCD with reviewing the document and providing recommendations to make updates toward the document.

2019-4: Land Use Council Elections Reporting
