The weather outside may be frightful - but the work of the Alumni and Community Relations team has been delightful!
Over the last few weeks, we have been travelling with our Varsity teams and taking the opportunity to invite alumni to join us in watching their games. Meet and Greets have been held in Kingston, Waterloo, Ottawa and most recently Sudbury! Our Basketball and Hockey players have enjoyed the added fans in the stands, and it has even boosted their wins! Be sure to visit our website often, as we have a number of dates coming up in the new year.
The month of November began with the news that for the second year in a row, Lakehead University was ranked #1 for research in the Undergraduate category by Re$earch Infosource. Our research will expand further with a funding announcement in which both the Provincial and Federal governments will be investing in the creation of a new state-of-the-art research complex to be known as the Centre for Advanced Studies in Engineering and Sciences. The new centre will enable Lakehead to offer advanced training courses and will help local businesses and start-ups commercialize their products and services and help grow the region’s economy.
Our annual Report to the Community was launched in both Thunder Bay and Orillia to great support and feedback. Touching upon the great successes achieved by our alumni, it proved that once again, our grads are an exceptional and unconventional bunch.
The month ended on a very high note with the introduction of Lakehead's first-ever Giving Tuesday campaign in support of student scholarships, bursaries, athletics and enhanced experience. Along with the generous match from the Alumni Association, the day-long event raised over $41,000- a truly fantastic result!
As we wrap up 2016, we'd like to take this time to offer our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
With sincere appreciation for your continued support,
The Alumni and Community Relations Team
