Dear Neighbors and Community Partners,

By now you likely have seen the news that, given the rapidly expanding concerns related to COVID-19, Tufts University has implemented significant and immediate changes, as described in this message from President Monaco. In addition, the University has set up this web site to provide updates.  We appreciate your support, patience and understanding during this time as we all work together to ensure the health and safety of our communities.

We want to draw your attention, in particular, to the following measures that directly pertain to our community partners:
  • Events, space and facilities. On-campus events and Tufts-sponsored off-campus events and gatherings are prohibited through April 30, 2020. Event spaces on all Tufts campuses will not be available for use by community partner groups. If you have a current reservation, you will be contacted by a University staff member. All libraries, art galleries, the Tisch Sports and Fitness Center, Gantcher Center, and Cousens Gymnasium will be closed to the general public effective March 16.
  • Students engaged in the community. Beginning March 25, following spring break, University instruction will be conducted virtually for the remainder of the semester. All undergraduate classes will be canceled this Friday, March 13 to provide students with an opportunity to prepare to depart campus by Monday, March 16. We expect that most students will comply with this move-out date and not return to campus this spring. Please understand that we are working closely with those students who are unable to return to their permanent residences at this time due to travel restrictions or other significant constraints.

As such, students who are engaged in community work will not be continuing in-person community placements. We recognize that there are some instances where student-work can be completed remotely, and we encourage you to reach out to your University faculty or staff contacts to discuss specific arrangements.
  • University offices. As of now, University offices on all campuses will remain open, and faculty and staff will continue to report to work as regularly scheduled.
Going forward, we will continue to keep you informed as we have additional announcements. Please visit coronavirus.tufts.edu for the most up-to-date information regarding precautions the University is taking to protect the community.

If you have any questions, please contact the office of Government & Community Relations at communityrelations@tufts.edu or 617-627-3780.

We thank you for your ongoing collaboration,

Rocco DiRico, Director, Government & Community Relations
Liza Perry, Associate Director, Government & Community Relations
Shirley Mark, Director of Community Partnerships, Tisch College of Civic Life
