90 Day Bible Challenge
 Week 5

In this last week, we heard stories from the history of Israel, stories of great leaders like Joshua and Deborah, and the story of the great love of Ruth. Ruth's love and faithfulness was rewarded by becoming the great-grandmother of King David, whose lineage would eventually lead to Jesus. This week we hear more of David, and the prophet Samuel who helped guide him.

Did you miss some readings last week? Haven't started reading yet? No guilt! Just pick up right here and don't worry--you can always go back and read those stories later.

Each reading takes about 5 minutes to read. We also encourage you to take time to think about each reading, pray on it, and discover what God might be revealing to you in it.  Here are some questions to help you get started:
What is God saying to me in this passage?
What is challenging?
What is encouraging?
How can this word guide me today?

Want to discuss the readings? Join in the discussion at Faith in :45 after worship or visit the Living Christ Facebook page and join the discussion there. There have been some great comments and questions! Pastor Laura will be on vacation this week, but her pastor colleagues have promised to pop in and answer any questions you might have.

August 26 is
Burrell Schulz Day at Living Christ!

After nearly 20 years of devoted service here at Living Christ, Burrell will be retiring as our music director at the end of August. So we are declaring this last Sunday Burrell Schulz Day, so we can celebrate his faithful service and dedication. You are invited to stay after worship for a luncheon in Burrell’s honor. Please come prepared to share a special memory or story about Burrell.

We need some volunteers to help provide food for the luncheon. A main dish will be provided, but we will need side dishes and salads for the meal. If you are able to provide a dish, please sign up on the clipboard in the welcome area or email Marcia in the office. Marcia Bulleri

God’s Work. Our Hands.
Sunday, September 9

Save the date for a service of service
and community meal!

Living Christ is one of nearly 10,000 congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) participating in “God’s work. Our hands.” Across the country, thousands of ELCA members are engaging in service work to make a positive change in their communities, build and deepen relationships and share God’s love. (See a video here!)  Plan on a service of service this day—our worship will begin here in the church, but continue out in the community! Whether you can do a lot or a little, whether you are young or old, there will be an opportunity for you to serve.

Projects will include packing school kits for Lutheran World Relief, collecting food from our neighbors for the backpack program, and more. We are still adding projects for GWOH Day. After we finish our projects, plan on staying at church for a BBQ lunch. This is a great day to invite friends and families to experience some hands-on love for our neighbors, so invite them to join you.

Have an idea for a project? Have a great charity we could help? Please share your ideas with Pastor Laura and the church council: Cheryl Juris, Theresa Avila, Sean Garvey, Dennis Buck, Alli Kajpust.

Have a joyful week!
