Feeding the Hungry Advocacy Alert:
Will you call your representative?

Earlier this year, the House and Senate both approved their own versions of a Farm Bill. While the Senate version preserves and protects access to SNAP benefits, the House version proposes harmful cuts to SNAP - a critical program that helps children, seniors, and working families. This month a conference of Representatives and Senators will negotiate a Farm Bill the Senate and House can agree on. They've set a goal of passing a Farm Bill by September 30.

This is the time to tell our members of Congress to NOT support any Farm Bill that cuts access to SNAP.  SNAP is the most important program fighting hunger in the United States. In Illinois, about 1.9 million people depend on SNAP to feed themselves and their families. Most of Illinois’ SNAP recipients who can work, do work, and those who do not are disabled, elderly, or children. As people of faith, we can help feed the hungry by advocating for a Farm Bill that helps people in our community facing hunger. (SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, sometimes called food stamps.)

How you can take action:
Please call 1-888-398-8702 and tell your member of Congress to protect SNAP by supporting Senate provisions, and rejecting any Farm Bill that imposes cuts to SNAP. Need help finding your member of Congress? You can find the name and contact information here:
Find Your Representative
And you can reach Illinois Senators here:
Senator Dick Durbin
Senator Tammy Duckworth

Thank you in advance for your help protecting anti-hunger programs!

90 Day Bible Challenge

We are well into the New Testament, and reading stories from Jesus' life and ministry this week. We will be meeting some unforgettable characters!

Even if you have read these stories before, you will find that each time you read them God reveals something new to you. To help hear that something new, shake up your Bible reading this week. Try reading a different translation of the Bible. If you usually read silently, try reading the story aloud, one verse at a time. After you read the story, try putting it into your own words.

And if you have fallen away from your reading, don't worry. Just pick up your Bible and keep going. You are invited to read each story, to pray on it, and discover what God might be revealing to you in it.  Here are some questions to help you get started:
What is God saying to me in this passage?
What is challenging?
What is encouraging?
How can this word guide me today?

Want to discuss the readings? Join in the discussion at Faith in :45 after worship or visit the Living Christ Facebook page and join the discussion there. There have been some great comments and questions!
