  • Fall MoD-FIS available Oct. 1| The third and final release of the MoD-FIS seasonal products for the 2021 growing season covers the Southwest region of the United States. MoD-FIS (Modeling Dynamic Fuels with an Index System) modulates fuel model data by incorporating seasonal variability of herbaceous cover. These fine fuel measurements are then used to capture changes to fire behavior fuel models based on the current fire season herbaceous production.  Download MoD-FIS.
  • Upcoming Fall American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting features fire-related sessions (13-17 December)
    • Session A057: Fire and Smoke: Biomass Burning Emissions, Chemical Evolution, and Impacts on Air Quality and Climate
    • Session A077: Methodological Improvements in Fire, Smoke, and Smoke Exposure
    • Session A096: Remote Sensing of Fire Processes and Biomass Burning Emissions
    • Session GH015 Monitoring, Modeling, and Forecasting Fire Emissions, Smoke and its Health Impacts

Q: Are there any LF products that incorporate climate change models into fire regime models?

A: Not explicitly. The BpS models can be updated to represent current conditions and then to simulate potential future scenarios. This could require a bit of work from the user, but good news! We have support materials for anyone interested in this task. See our Vegetation Modeling website, (especially the Climate Change tab). Provencher et. al. (2016) has used state-and-transition models extensively and incorporated climate change scenarios.
